Gravitation

The document contains a series of physics questions related to gravitational forces, acceleration due to gravity, and orbital mechanics. It includes problems on calculating gravitational attraction, weight on different planets, changes in gravity with Earth's radius, and energy required for satellite movement. Each question presents a scenario requiring application of gravitational principles and formulas.

Q1.

A sphere of mass 40kg is attracted by another sphere of mass 15kg with a force
of 110mgwt. Find the constant of gravitation if the centres of the spheres are 0.2m
apart.
Q2.A mass M is broken into two parts of masses m1 and m2. How are m1
and m2 related so that force of gravitational attraction between the two parts is
maximum?
Q3. A body weighs 90 kg f on the surface of Earth. What is its weight on a planet whose
mass ln 1/9 and radius is 1/2 of Earth?

Q4. if the radius of earth shrinks by 2%, mass remaining constant, then how
would the value of acceleration due to gravity change?

Q5. A man can jump 1.5 m on the Earth. Calculate the approximate height he
might be able to jump on a planet whose density is one-quarter that of the Earth
and whose radius is one-third that of the Earth.

Q6. At what height above the earth's surface the acceleration due to gravity will
be 1/9 th of its value at the earth's surface? Given radius of earth, R=6400 km

Q7. If the Earth were a perfect sphere of radius 6.37×106 m, rotating about its
polar axis with a period of 1 day (=8.64×104 s) how much would the acceleration
due to gravity differ from the poles to equator?
Q8. Find the gravitational potential energy of a system of four particles, each
having mass m, placed at the vertices of a square of side l at the centre of the
square.

Q9. An artificial satellite is going round the earth, close to its surface. What is
the time taken by it to complete one round? Given radius of the earth=6400 km.

Q10. Calculate the energy required to move an earth satellite of mass 10 3 kg

M = 5.98 × 1024 𝑀 = 5.98 × 1024 kg and radius of the earth, R = 6.37 × 106 𝑅 =
from a circular orbit of radius 2R to that of radius 3R. Given mass of the earth,

6.37 × 106 m
