18. Major Projects Undertaken in the past : One of the major projects I have undertaken involved the
development and evaluation of a manually operated
boom sprayer using a battery-operated knapsack
sprayer. This project aimed to enhance the efficiency of
spraying in agriculture by combining the convenience of
a knapsack sprayer with the extended coverage and
capacity of a boom sprayer, designed to reduce labor
and improve the uniformity of pesticide or fertilizer
application. The project began with the design and
conceptualization of a sprayer system that integrates a
battery-operated knapsack sprayer with a boom
mechanism. The goal was to create a sprayer that could
be carried on the back, like a typical knapsack sprayer,
but with a boom attached to distribute the spray over a
wider area. This would allow users to cover more ground
with less effort, as opposed to manually spraying each
individual plant or row. The design process included
selecting a suitable battery-operated knapsack sprayer
that would provide enough pressure and flow rate for
effective spraying. The knapsack sprayer’s pump was
modified to work seamlessly with the boom system. A
lightweight, adjustable boom arm was designed to
ensure even coverage across varying crop heights and
field sizes. For material selection, we focused on
durability and weight. The frame was made from
lightweight, corrosion-resistant materials like aluminum
and high-density plastic to reduce user fatigue. The
boom was designed to be both sturdy and flexible to
withstand different field conditions while being easy to
assemble, transport, and store. Performance testing wa
conducted in controlled environments to evaluate the
effectiveness of the sprayer system. This involved
adjusting spray nozzle configurations to ensure even
distribution of the liquid across the target area. The
system was tested for its ability to cover large areas
while maintaining the correct application rates and
minimizing wastage. Following successful laboratory
tests, the sprayer was taken into field trials. These trials
were conducted in actual agricultural settings, where
farmers tested the sprayer in different crop fields. The
primary objectives were to assess the ease of use,
comfort, and the sprayer's performance in real-
world conditions. Feedback from farmers focused on
factors such as the sprayer’s weight, battery life, and
operational efficiency. Farmers also provided insights on
the sprayer's ability to reach different areas of the
field and its impact on crop protection effectiveness.
Based on the results of the field trials, modifications
were made to further improve the sprayer’s design.
Adjustments included refining the nozzle placement for
more even coverage, enhancing the boom’s flexibility,
and optimizing the battery life to ensure longer
operational time. These refinements led to a more
efficient and user-friendly sprayer. The final product was
a manually operated boom sprayer powered by a battery
operated knapsack sprayer. This innovative solution
combined the benefits of both systems, allowing farmer
to spray larger areas more efficiently with less physical
effort. The sprayer improved the uniformity of
application, reduced labor costs, and enhanced overall
productivity, making it especially valuable for small-scal
and medium-sized farmers.
19. Which is your area/ subject matter of Interest and My area of interest as an agricultural engineer lies in
why? : **food processing, shelf life extension, and quality
management**. This field is integral to improving food
security, reducing waste, and enhancing the quality of
agricultural products. It combines my passion for
agriculture with the application of engineering principles
to solve real-world challenges in food production. **Foo
processing** fascinates me because it plays a critical
role in converting raw agricultural produce into valuable,
market-ready food products. Efficient food processing
techniques not only increase the shelf life of perishable
items but also preserve their nutritional value. I am
particularly interested in optimizing processing methods
that enhance product quality and production efficiency.
The application of automation and innovative
technologies in food processing can streamline
operations, reduce energy consumption, and minimize
waste. As an agricultural engineer, I am excited about
contributing to the development of sustainable and cost
effective food processing systems that improve the
overall efficiency of the food supply chain. Another key
area of interest is **shelf life extension**. Reducing food
waste by extending the shelf life of perishable goods is
essential in today’s global food system. I am particularly
intrigued by preservation techniques such as
refrigeration, modified atmosphere packaging (MAP),
and the use of natural preservatives. These methods
help maintain the freshness, safety, and nutritional
quality of food products while preventing spoilage. As
food waste remains a significant global issue, finding
effective ways to extend shelf life could play a pivotal
role in addressing food insecurity, particularly in
developing regions where storage and transportation
infrastructure may be lacking. **Quality management**
in food processing is equally important. Ensuring the
safety, consistency, and quality of food products is
crucial for both consumer satisfaction and regulatory
compliance. I am interested in applying quality control
systems, such as Total Quality Management (TQM),
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), and
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), to ensure food
products meet the highest standards. Advanced
technologies such as data analytics, Internet of Things
(IoT) sensors, and machine learning also present
exciting opportunities to enhance real-time monitoring
and control of food quality. These innovations allow for
improved traceability, minimizing defects and
contamination risks during production, which ultimately
ensures safer, higher-quality products. Moreover, I am
deeply committed to the role of **sustainability** in foo
processing. The growing global population presents a
challenge in terms of both food production and
environmental impact. Optimizing resource use, reducin
energy consumption, and minimizing waste in food
processing are key to building sustainable food systems
I am particularly interested in researching methods to
reduce the carbon footprint of food processing
operations while maintaining or improving food quality.
By focusing on sustainable practices, such as using
renewable energy and reducing packaging waste,
agricultural engineers can play a crucial role in
combating climate change and conserving natural
resources. In conclusion, my interest in **food
processing, shelf life extension, and quality
management** stems from the potential to make a
meaningful impact on global food systems. By improvin
food safety, reducing waste, and ensuring sustainability,
hope to contribute to innovations that will benefit both
the agricultural sector and society as a whole. As an
agricultural engineer, I aim to apply my knowledge to
create solutions that address the complex challenges of
modern food production and processing.
20. Why would you like to join FSSAI for Internship? : I would like to join FSSAI for an internship because it
offers a unique opportunity to apply my background as
an agricultural engineer while deepening my expertise in
**food processing, shelf life extension**, and **quality
management of food products**. These areas are my
primary areas of interest, and I believe FSSAI’s focus on
food safety, regulation, and innovation aligns perfectly
with my career goals and aspirations. As an agricultural
engineer, I have developed a strong foundation in the
science of food production and preservation. I am
particularly fascinated by how food processing

about. Ensuring that food products meet safety
standards and maintain consistent quality is essential
for consumer health and confidence. FSSAI’s role in
setting and enforcing food quality standards provides an
ideal environment for me to understand and contribute
to the processes behind food certification, quality
control, and safety protocols. I am particularly interested
in gaining experience in implementing systems like
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP), Total
Quality Management (TQM), and Good Manufacturing
Practices (GMP), which are essential for maintaining the
safety and quality of food products throughout their
lifecycle. FSSAI’s focus on research, food safety
guidelines, and policy development also excites me as it
aligns with my long-term career goal of contributing to
improving food systems. I am particularly keen to
understand the regulatory landscape and the role of
standards and certifications in the food industry. By
joining FSSAI, I hope to broaden my understanding of th
intersection between food technology, policy, and quality
assurance, which will allow me to make meaningful
