Electrophoresis Lab Report
The results of our experiment were similar to the actual isoelectric point of BSA with the
exception of one data record. The calculated pI for BSA was approximately 4.5 after
experimentation in comparison to 4.7, the real pI value of BSA. The isoelectric point was
calculated after graphing the averages of each buffer solution and taking the x intercept of the
data. The isoelectric point detailed the pH at which the substance had a net charge of zero. The
second strip of pH 6.0 with a value of +5mm, was omitted from calculations to improve the
accuracy and precision of data. Buffers with a pH greater than the isoelectric move towards the
negative end. Most of the buffer solutions with a pH of 4.7 and greater from the data, migrated to

What is electrophoretic mobility? Describe two ways in which the mobility of a molecule is
affected during electrophoresis. Electrophoretic mobility is the ability of substance to migrate
during a period of time which is proportional to speed. The speed and distance a molecule or
substance moves in result of the electric field that electrophoresis applies, can indicate the size
and charge of the molecule. Bigger molecules will move slower than small and greater net
charges will move faster to the opposite charge. 3. For this experiment, your sample was applied
to a cellulose acetate strip and the migration in an electric field was measured at various pH
values. There are other methods that can be used during an electrophoresis experiment. Discuss
one alternative electrophoresis method and compare and contrast it to the method used in lab
this week. In slab gel electrophoresis agarose or polyacrylamide is used. The conducting buffer is
contained in the porous gel and the gel is then poured in between glass plates. These plates are
separated by spacers. An electric field is applied at the rear after the substance of experimentation
is added to the wells at the top. The substance will then move a certain distance towards the
positive electrode. This method uses gel unlike the cellulose acetate strips but it still uses a buffer
and a electric field to migrate the substances based on their size and charge. Slab gel electrophoresis
is usually used in the biological
China s One-Child Policy
Over population is an extremely serious problem facing the world today. According to an article
from Newsweek in Oct. 2009 called Where do babies come from? , today s world population has
reached over 6.6 billion people. Also the article mentioned that in 2009 57.4% of all new born
babies who were born this year came from Asia alone. This is an issue because over population can
lead to hasty consumption of resources. China who has one of the largest population in the world
with over 1.3 billion people, has taken a stance against over population. By introducing China s One
Child Policy(Family PlanningPolicy) in 1979, China hopes to decrease its country s annual
population growth. China has implemented the policy by many different... Show more content on

The book also discusses the teaching of family planning in school at a young age and in the
community for young women.
Using propaganda to help the people of China to be aware of family planning has significantly
help decrease China s population. According to an article written by Davis Kingsley called The
Political Impact of New Population Trends , by using propaganda China has help pushed its
people to accept and embrace the One Child Policy even if they have to resort to stretching the
truth (pg. 7). By using drastic measures to help decrease population growth China has implanted
deception to its people. According to Kingsley, the most shocking information that China s health
officials have given its people as to why postponing marriage is a good decision. Kingsley discover
that China s health officials state that intercourse before the age of mid to late twenties is
detrimental to the development of the body (pg. 9). Though the use of propaganda to implement the
One Child Policy is significantly decreasing China s population growth, the use of deception in
China s propaganda message is an unethical way for the government to play with its people
ignorance and faith in the political system.
Another approach to implement China s One Child Policy is by taxation or paying a certain amount
of money for fines. Fines or taxation amounts are based on the family s
How Technology Has Changed Today
Technology has changed drastically from the 1970s to now. We have exceeded what most people
back then could ever imagine. The technology used in schools, homes, and in public places has
evolved into technology that makes the cutting edge technology of the 70s look very simple. Things
such as the personal computer, the cell phone, electronic games, TVs, and even watches have
changed completely. The ways that they have exceeded expectations is truly unbelievable.

Home technology has taken a gigantic step since the 1970s as not only has the performance
improved, but more families have begun to feel a necessity to have these appliances. In 1977 the
Apple 2 Computer was released to the public. What was then considered an ordinary computer for
ordinary people is now seen only in museums and dumps. The personal computer was one of the
first personal computer with no additional parts required to buy, such as cases for the computer or
a way to supply it power. The Apple 2 was also had great graphics for its time and was very easy to
use for normal people. We now have computers in our phones, but in the 1970s the Apple 2 was one
of the only computer that you could effectively use at work, school, or at home
([Link]). However, all of that is nothing compared to the computers we currently use.
Now most families have a laptop computer that is portable and has a long battery life without having
to remain plugged into a power outlet. The computers have gotten

Queens played great roles during the period of New kingdom Egypt. They were known as the Great
Royal Wife s of the pharaohs and contributed politically, religiously and diplomatically influencing
the roles of women during this period, and even future queens.
Queen Tiye was an important influence on new kingdom Egypt and was the key wife of Amenhotep
III and they ruled a peaceful reign. Tiye was the daughter of Yuya which was a officer in the
chariotry, priest of min and Tuya (chief of harem of Amun and min) which both had Nubian royal

Art also depicted her in family scenes which previously were regarded as too intimate such as being
Arm in arm(statues).
Through the roles of Tiye, future queens Nefertiti and Nefertari we are able to observe the changing
roles of queens influenced them and clearing path for them. The kings built temples to honour them
and depicted them as goddesses.
Queen Tiye played a great religious role and according to Historian Nicholas Grimal she was the
personification of Maat goddess of justice and truth. She was also depicted as goddess ta weret in
statues representing fertility and motherhood (mother of Egyptians). A temple was also dedicated
to her in Sedianga(Nubia) meaning she was worshiped as a goddess. Commemorative and
marriage scarabs were made for her publicising their marriage and promoting the pharaonic cult as
everyone that attended received one meaning they would be remembered. She also participated in
religious festivals such as the Sed festival. She also served as a priestess within Amun Re suggesting
that her religious roles were not extensive yet they were still an increase on the contributions to that
of her predecessors.
A Khan Academy Documentary by Beth Harris shows a headdress worn by Tiye that included horns
solar disk, referring to the religion Atenism which is monotheistic and regal promoting the god Aten.
Horns and Feathers on headdress also related to the goddess Hathor.

The Production of Sludge
Sludge could be produce in many ways, it can be from waste settlement to the dry process. Brick is
one of the flexible product that gain attention from researcher to be incorporated with different type
of sludge material such as waste water sludge, water treatment sludge, marble sludge, effluent
treatment plants (textile industry) sludgeand arsenic contaminated sludge.

2.1Textile sludge

Jahagirdar et al (2013) discussed the reuse of textile mill sludge in burnt clay bricks. Textile mill
sludge was mixed together with different proportion (5% to 35%) as the raw material in this
study. The brick was fired at 600 to 800ºC and for 8, 16 and 24hours. Base on the result textile
sludge can be added up to 15% as it gives compressive strength above 3.5N/mm2 and the water
absorption ratio is less than 20%.
According to (Herek et al, 2012) investigated on incorporated the textile laundry sludge into a
brick showed that sludge can be incorporate until a concentration of 20% in terms of the
mechanical properties. The compressive strength for the brick was 3.73Mpa for the control brick
and 4.62Mpa for the sludge brick. For the water absorption result had shown that 15.73% and
10.10% for control brick and sludge brick respectively. Besides, the produces brick are safe
according to applied leaching and not exceed to the standard limits. (Baskar et al, 2006) discussed
about characterization and reuse of textile effluent treatment plant waste sludge in clay bricks. In this

Quickbook Advantages And Disadvantages
QuickBooks
According to Warren et al., one of the essential parts of successfully running a firm is keeping
accurate financial records (3). It is the primary role of the firm s management to hire skilled
bookkeepers or accountants to provide the stakeholders of the company with the correct financial
reports. However, nowadays, the preferred method of maintaining the books of accounting is
through the use of accounting software (computerized computer systems) such as QuickBooks, a
product offered by Intuit, primarily marketed to small enterprises and non profit making
organizations. Apparently, the software has assisted in streamlining most of the accounting tasks by
ensuring reliable financial results to the users. Nevertheless, like anything else, QuickBooks has its
advantages and disadvantages as outlined below.
One of the advantages with QuickBooks is that it is easy to use and requires minimal knowledge.
The main problem with the accounting concepts is that they are hard and cumbersome to learn and
apply (Warren et al. 52). However, the developers of QuickBooks designed the software in a way that
it is easy to understand even for the individuals without any financial or accounting background. That
is, unlike the manual accounting procedures which demand significant knowledge and experience in
accounting concepts, QuickBooks is programmed in a way that the user needs to enter the
transactions, and other accounting procedures are automated, giving accurate results.
Children Must Become Competent in Reading Before They Have...
Introduction
Writing has existed as far back as the 7th millennium BC and the 4th millennium BC, it first started
with mnemonic symbols which later became a system of ideograms. In the early days people wrote
on different things, such as silk, rocks, wood, papyrus etc. It wasn t Until the 15th century were
parchment or vellum (calfskin) were used as pages for the first books.
A book can be said to be a set of written or printed made of ink and paper usually fastened together
or coupled electronically (e books) for the purpose of storing or recording information. Collins and
Cheek (1999) explained that reading involves a complex thought process in order to understand a
writing or printed message. According to Rubin (2002), reading is a total integrative process that
starts with the reader and includes the affective, perceptual, and cognitive domains. Okebukola
(2004) affirms that,by reading books, humans have the tools to transmit knowledge from one
generation to another; it allows one to listen to the wisdom of those who have lived in the past and
so on. This even expressed by religious prophets. The Apostle Paul in the bible admonished Timothy
study to show yourself approved unto God (11 timothy 2:15). Islam values acquisition of knowledge
(literacy, reading, etc.) As very important The holy Qur an reveals that the first communication (
between Allah and Prophet Muhammad was intellectual.

Abolition of Slave Trade
The main reasons for the abolition of the slave trade

The trading and exportation of slaves has been a large part if Britain s history since the early 15th
century and the British Empire had been partly founded on the basis of exchanging slaves for
goods and foreign products. 400 years after the slave trade began and people were finally
realising how morally wrong the exchanging of humans actually was and on March 3, 1807,
President Thomas Jefferson signed into act a bill approved by Congress the day before to prohibit
the importation of slaves into any port or place within the jurisdiction of the United States. Three
weeks later, on the 25th, the British House of Lords passed an Act for the Abolition of The Slave
Trade. But why was ... Show more content on [Link] ...
Wilberforce, over a period of years and amidst much opposition, fought to have slavery abolished by
presenting a number of bills to the British Parliament. He was a Member of the House of
Commons and Wilberforce was, as an MP, in a position to bring the matter before the House. Sir
Charles Middleton, Thomas Clarkson, William Pitt and William Grenville all gave Wilberforce
impetus to bring the Quakers and Anglicans together to campaign against the trade in slaves,
focusing on the trade rather than against slavery was felt an achievable step toward total abolition
and, due to Britain s naval pre eminence would affect all slaving nations.

Religious factors also played a pivotal role in the abolition of the slave trade. Christian groups such
as the Quakers and Anglicans had been campaigning against slavery for a number of years. Before
the eighteenth century, very few white men questioned the morality of slavery. The Quakers and
Anglicans were among these few. The doctrines of their religion declared an issue such as slavery to
be unjust. By 1775, the Quakers founded the first American anti slavery group. Through the 1700s,
Rome During Medieval Times
Medieval Society Medieval Society helped to give a better perspective on what Rome was like
during Medieval Times. The article explained the collapse of The Western Roman Empire, and
makes things easier to comprehend by breaking it down by countries/ parts of the empire. By using
this method, it makes it easier to understand the fall of the Roman Empire by going in depth and
explaining all the different causes for each empire s downfall. It also showed how medieval Europe
inherited many of it s traditions and institutions, for example, Christianity. I thought this article was
well written and gave enough details and information to fully understand the main concept of this
article.

The Medieval Cathedral in its Cultural Setting The Medieval Cathedral in its Cultural Setting made
it easier to understand the the significance of the Cathedral. Jean Gimpel, the author of the article
said, In order to understand the cultural significance of the cathedral, the student must know the
political, economic, social, aesthetic, and religious environment in which it grew ; which the article
did perfectly. The article even discussed the beginning of the cathedral itself by explaining how it

than the first two because the first paragraph discussed many things and was unclear as to what the
article was going to discuss. The transitions for topic to topic were also formatted strange and made
it even more difficult to understand and I did not like this style of writing as much as the previous

Truffaut On Love Essay
children chase the lovers when the man chases the women. Gérard shows his brutal and child like
nature when he chases one of his tormentors, when he gets him he slaps him, a primal and a beast
just like children would curl. The spectacle of the lovers is always accompanied by either screams
or whispers and extremely agitated and exciting body languages. The children are constantly
reactive to the spectacle of the love that they are seeing. The second motif will be the connection
between love and death. In a perfect way the spectacle in Truffaut s filmconstantly connected to the

presence of the film when she was clothed in light. Not a coincidence at all that Gérard wears all
black which foreshadows his fate. Truffaut very subtly continues the symbolic play with colors,
Bernadette will only wear white until the crucial foreshadow moment of Gérard when they kiss
goodbye. For the first time their relationship is connected to sadness. Just like a childGérard
proposes to Bernadette by singing in a very childish way. This moment is important because the
promise of a life together will be derailed by an accident. The end of the film is sectioned again by
the unavoidable reality of death that will destroy love. Truffaut loves films about goddesses like
