IV Pump Interoperability Competency Checklist

To be used in conjunction with the IV Pump Interoperability SuperUser Curriculum

Interoperability: The bidirectional flow of information from Epic to BD Alaris Pump.


Association: Link a specific order to a specific pump channel.
Back-association: Link an existing order to a pump channel after the pump has been manually programmed and is
infusing.
Disassociation: Stopping communication from Epic to the pump channel.
Infusion Verify: An activity in the MAR where clinicians verify and document volumes and actions from the pump into
Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Associate and program primary infusion order to pump channel
Associate and program secondary infusion
Associate and program secondary infusion for pended medication
Disassociate after secondary complete
Infusion verify and view and file data
Infusion verify and adjust KVO rate
Program the pump with subsequent bag by scanning pt, med and
pump channel, then send order details
Program the pump when order is modified and in epic, infusion
verify
Program the pump for titratable medication by changing rate/dose
at pump and infusion verify in epic
Pause an infusion at the pump and then infusion verify
Program the pump: bolus from currently infusing bag (basic fluid
only!), change rate and VTBI on pump and then infusion verify in
Epic and override rate and choose ‘bolus from bag’
Program the pump: Restart infusion at pump and then infusion
verify, (IDC in infusion verify not in MAR)
Infusion verify at end of shift or TOA
Program the pump for override pull and infusion verify
Infusion verify and disassociate channels
Back associate an order: an emergent infusion programmed
manually or patient return from out-of-scope area (eg. IR/OR)
Program the pump: stepped infusions (chemo)
Program the pump: line changes for MRI (CCU)
