Edging and Zipper


1. Lower Edge, Fronts and Hood: With RS facing, using crochet hook, beg at side seam between right Front and Back, join yarn with a slip st;
ch 1, work in sc evenly along CO edge to center right Front; work 2 more sc (a total of 3) in corner st to turn corner; cont sc evenly up right cen-
ter Front, around Hood opening, and down left center Front; turn corner as for right Front; cont along lower edge to beg. Fasten off.
2. Sleeves: Work as for lower edge of Body.
3. Sew zipper into center Front opening inside crochet edge, beg approx 1" below neck shaping.

Trim
1. Ties (make 2): Using crochet hook, work a chain 14" long. Fasten off.
2. Sew one tie to each neck edge, where Hood joins neck shaping.
3. Loop Pom Poms (make 2): Wrap yarn around a 3" piece of cardboard 20 times.
4. Using a 12" piece of yarn, tie through all strands at center of cardboard; slide loops off cardboard, tie rem strands with same piece of yarn—
DO NOT CUT loops.
5. Attach one pom pom to end of each tie.
Using tn, weave in all ends.

20. K 2 R. Place a marker (pm) at each side for Button band. Reset RC=000
21. Button Band: K 11 R. Using latch tool, convert last R (turning row).
22. Facing: K 10 R.
23. Remove to WY.

FINISHING
1. Fold Button band facing to WS; graft to marked R.
2. If desired, fold 3 sts at lower edge to WS and stitch neatly in place to form a
hem.
3. Allow neck band to roll naturally, or turn to WS and stitch neatly in place.
4. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes.
Using tn, weave in all ends.

HAND KNIT

NEEDLES
One pair size US 9 (5.5 mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge

SPECIAL TERM
Wrap and Turn (wrp-t)
(RS) Yarn forward (yf – to the purl position), slip next st to RH needle, yarn back
(yb – to the knit position), return slipped st, (which is now wrapped), to LH nee-
dle; turn, leaving rem sts unworked.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUE
Short Row Shaping
(RS) Knit the number of sts indicated in the instructions, wrp-t. (WS) Purl to starting point.
Cont to work progressively longer rows; work wraps tog with wrapped sts, as you come to them, as follows:
Insert the RH needle into wrap at base of wrapped st from beneath, bring RH needle up and into st on LH needle knitwise; k2tog (wrap and
wrapped st)—this prevents a hole from forming where Short Row ended.
Hint: If it's difficult to work wrap and st tog as given above, slip wrapped st to RH needle, insert LH needle into wrap (from bottom to top), place
wrap on LH needle, return wrapped st to LH needle and knit wrap and wrapped st tog.

Seed Stitch (multiple of 2 sts; 1-row repeat)


Row 1 (RS): * K1, p1; repeat from * across, (end k1 if an odd number of sts).
Row 2: Knit the purl sts and purl the knit sts as they face you.
Repeat Row 2 for Seed st.

BUTTON BAND
CO 70 (75, 80) sts.
(RS) Beg Seed st; work even for 10 rows, end with a WS row.

CAPELET BODY
Establish Pattern: (RS) Work 3 sts in Seed st (lower edge); change to St st and work even to last 5 sts; work last 5 sts in Seed st (neck band).
Work 1 row even as est.

Cont as est, beg Short Row Shaping:


* (RS) Work 12 (13, 14) sts, wrp-t.
(WS) Work to end – 1 Short Row completed.

SCARF
1. COL. Using KP#3, closed CO Method and MY, CO 29 sts. COR. RC=000.
2. Beg Spaced rib, converting every 5th st, approx E 10 R. K to RC=054. COR.
3. Dividing Row: Place 24 ndls at LHS in HP. 5 ndls in WP.
4. Using transfer tool, transfer converted st to adjacent ndl to right. 4 ndls in WP, (2 sts on 4th ndl). Place empty ndl out of work. Reset RC=000.
5. K to RC=034. COR. Place 4 ndls in HP.
6. Return next 5 ndls to FWP. Reset RC=000.
7. Repeat Steps 4 - 6 on rem 4 groups of 5 sts. 4 sts rem unworked.
8. Repeat Step 5 on last 4 sts.
9. Return 29 ndls in FWP (24 ndls from HP, 5 empty ndls).
10. Joining Row: Lift purl bump from adjacent st on right to each empty ndl. 29 sts. Reset RC=000.

LATTICE SCARF & WRISTLETS

13. Weaving Strips: Weave the first strip over and under the strip openings on the opposite side. Repeat for rem strips, alternating the weaving
for each strip.
14. Place 29 ndls in FWP.

PONCHO PANEL
1. Beg LHS, using closed CO Method and MC, CO 70 sts. RC=000. COR.
2. K to RC=287. COL.
3. Pull 4 marked ndls to HP.
4. K 1 row. COR. RC=288.
5. BO 13 sts, drop st from ndl in HP, work a very large BO st over dropped st; repeat from * 3 times, BO rem 13 sts.
6. Unravel dropped sts to CO row.

FINISHING
Woven Strips
1. Using CC, cut four 60" long strands.
2. Press strands flat, using a warm (not hot) steam iron.
3. Thread tn or bodkin with a strand of CC.
4. Beg at CO edge, weave strand of CC through each dropped-st section as follows:
5. * Leaving a 6" tail, skip 4 rungs, insert tn between 4th and 5th rung and begin weaving over and under 4 rungs at a time to BO edge; leave
rem 6" tail at BO edge.
6. Repeat for 3 rem sections, alternating rungs on each section.

WOVEN PONCHO

Crochet Edging
1. With RS facing, using crochet hook and MC, join yarn with a slip st to corner of one long side.
2. Ch 1, work 1 row sc evenly across, do NOT turn.
3. Working from left to right, work 1 row Rev sc along same side.
4. Fasten off.

Assemble Poncho
1. Fold piece in half lengthwise; folded piece measures 16" x 24".
2. On long side opposite crochet edging, place a marker (pm) 12" from fold on each side, (see schematic).
3. Using tn and MC, sew center Front seam from lower edge to markers.
Using tn, weave in ends.

Fringe
1. Using CC, press 15 yards flat (as for woven strands).
2. Wrap CC around 13" piece of cardboard 42 times; cut along one edge.
3. Wrap MC around cardboard 80 times; cut along one edge.
4. With RS facing, beg at one corner, holding 2 strands CC tog, * fold fringe in half; using crochet hook, insert hook from WS to RS into first st,
pull through loop [fold of strands], insert ends into loop and pull tight against edge.
5. Holding 4 strands of MC tog; repeat from * Step 4, placing fringe approx 3/4" from CC fringe.
6. Cont alternating CC and MC fringe across to first woven strip.
7. Make a fringe of CC and attach it around the tails of CC left when weaving the strip.
8. Cont attaching fringe, alternating colors, working CC fringe over the rem 3 woven sections.
9. Work across the last section, ending with a CC fringe at corner.
10. Trim fringe, if desired.

Using MC, CO 70 sts.
Beg St st; work even until piece measures 48" from beg, end with a WS row.

(WS) BO all sts, working a large BO st across the dropped sts to keep edge from pulling in.
Unravel the dropped sts to CO edge.
