Introduction:-
•Head up display is also known as “H. U. D” .
•It is a Transparent display that presents data
without requiring users to look away from their usual
view points.
Types of H.U.D:-
• There is another H.U.D , i.e ”Head mounted
display(H.M.D)”.It is included in helmet
mounted displays , Display element moves
along with user orientation.
• Many modern fighters(such as “F/A-18”,”F-16”
and “Euro fighter”) use both H.U.D&H.M.D
Concurrently .
Over view :-
• A typical H.U.D contains 3 units .
They are :[Link] unit
[Link]
[Link] generator.
Projection unit:-
In Projection unit a typical H.U.D is an “optical
Collimator “ setup .A convex lens or concave -
-Mirror with a “Cathode ray tube ,Light emitting –
diode ,or Liquid crystal display”
Combiner :-
Combiner is typically an angled flat piece of glass
located directly in front of the viewer ,
Projected image from projector such a way to see
the field of view.
The computer provides interface between
the H.U.D (i. e Projection unit) and system/data
to be displayed and generates the imagery and
symbolically generated by Projection unit.
Generations :-
H.U.D’s are divided into 4 generations.
• First generation : -
In this generation C.R.T used to generate an image
on a Phosphor screen .The disadvantage is
Phosphor screen coating degrading.
• Second generation :-
In this generation used a Solid state light source.
Ex:-L.E.D , Which is modulated by an L.C.D screen
to display an image.
• Third generation :-
In this generation “Optical wave guides” to produce
images directly.
• Fourth generation:-
In this generation “Scanning laser” used to display
image and video imagery on a clear transparent
medium.
Applications of H.U.D :-
It is mostly used in Air craft , Military ,Auto
mobiles , Computer gaming etc.
