DAY 2- INTERN INSIGHTS

MOHIT KUMAR

Introduction-
Mohit Bhaiya, a 3rd year Computer Science Engineering student at Birla Institute
Of Technolgy, Mesra, Ranchi. He is currently working as a Project Intern in
Bangalore, where he is gaining valuable industry experience as Fractal Analyst
Inclination towards Tech field-
He initially started with CP- build problem-solving ability but left and jump to the
Web Development (HTML,CSS,JS), but did not find any intrest and jump into
Android Development in 3rd semester (preffered tech for apps) later on move into
Flutter for cross-platform flexibility. He started with making projects in 3rd sem,
starting with basic projects to build up the concepts, then made his 1st project -
sell and buy app , and 2nd main project - Travel App, Along this he was also doing
DSA.

Academic Management-

He mentioned that in 1st year he explored different things had fun in the campus
attended events and made new connections. He initialy started with CP and Web
development but later on in 3rd sem he switch to Android development. He
accquire all the skills mainly in summer breaks, he suggested to build a proper
plan and start working on it and for college academics, he suggested to have
basic idea of all the subjects and start preparing for exams at least before 15
days.

Internship Strategy-

There are primarily two types of internships students can pursue: Project
Internships, which come with varied requirements depending on the role and
organization, and SDE (Software Development Engineer) Internships, which are
more technical and focused on software development skills. Internship
opportunities can be either on-campus or off-campus. On-campus internships
typically begin around August, while off-campus roles require individual
initiative, consistent applications, and networking efforts. Companies offering
internships include service-based companies, which tend to be less competitive,
and product-based companies, which are more selective and skill-oriented. To
maximize chances, students should start applying proactively by November–
December and leverage referrals by reaching out to seniors, including those from
other colleges. Building a strong network on LinkedIn and other professional
forums is also highly encouraged.
Off- Campus Preparations-
Off-campus preparation requires a proactive and strategic approach. Start by
building a strong, tailored resume, and make sure to customize it for each role you
apply to. Consistently apply through online platforms, keeping track of
applications and following up regularly. It’s essential to remain active on job and
internship portals, as well as join Telegram and WhatsApp groups where relevant
leads are often shared. Alongside this, maintain an updated LinkedIn profile and
proactively reach out to recruiters through email or direct messages to express
interest and stand out from the competition.

Interview Process-

The interview process typically begins with an Online Assessment (OA) that
includes 2–3 basic DSA questions along with some SQL-related queries. For off-
campus opportunities, interview schedules are often unpredictable and may be
communicated just a day or two in advance, so candidates must stay prepared at
all times. Interviewers generally focus on the candidate’s project work, often
reviewing code available on GitHub, and assessing both technical understanding
and contributions. The HR round places strong emphasis on clear communication
skills. Candidates should be prepared to confidently explain their projects and DSA
experience, as well as their individual roles and contributions. Notably, on-campus
interviews tend to be easier.

Requirement for Interships-

To build a strong foundation for internships, begin with basic web development
skills such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Simultaneously, start practicing
Competitive Programming (CP) to enhance problem-solving abilities. As you
progress, transition into field you are intrested, upgrade your skills. Use structured
courses or playlists to understand the concepts. Focus on creating 1–2 complete
and impactful applications rather than many incomplete ones. Consistent practice
of Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA), starting by the second semester, is
crucial as it significantly aids in interviews and problem-solving tasks. Additionally,
use productivity tools like Notion to manage your time, set realistic goals, and stick
to timelines, especially since some projects may take more than 15 days to
complete. Start building resume on it and other skills which are required for
company role.
Suggestion for Students-

Suggestions for students can be categorized based on their current skill level.
Beginners should start by following structured playlists, easing into Competitive
Programming (CP), and participating in mock interviews to build confidence.
Intermediate students, who have already begun DSA or CP, should shift their
focus toward developing high-quality projects to enhance their profiles.
Advanced students are advised to plan their time efficiently, avoid unnecessary
distractions, and concentrate on polishing their resumes and completing final
touches on key projects.

Resources-

For Android development, valuable resources include platforms like Udemy and
Michigan Computer training, which offer structured courses to build
foundational and advanced skills. Additionally, exploring project repositories on
GitHub can provide insights into real-world project structure and
implementation, helping you understand best practices and improve your own
coding approach.
