Full Ceramic Crowns

The presentation outlines the objectives for students to understand the advantages and disadvantages of full ceramic crowns, as well as the steps for tooth preparation. Full ceramic crowns offer better aesthetics and good tissue response but have drawbacks such as low fracture resistance and complexity in fabrication. The document also details preparation criteria for porcelain jacket crowns, emphasizing the importance of proper reduction and finish line design.

disadvantages of full ceramic crowns.
2. Outline the steps of tooth preparation for full

Introduction
● The recent development of dental porcelain
have create renewed interest in the all
ceramic crown restoration.
● Non metallic full coverage ceramic
restoration restore the prepared anterior

Introduction
● Non metallic full coverage ceramic
restoration restore the prepared anterior
teeth functionally and esthetically.
● Examples: in ceram, compress II , procera,
lava.
All ceramic crown
Advantages
1. Provide better aesthetics.
2. Excellent translucency.
3. Good tissue response
All ceramic crown
Disadvantages
1. Abrasive to antagonists.
2. Complex techniques needed for fabrication.
3. Difficulty to adjust/polish intraorally.
4. Low fracture resistance.
5. Difficulty to repair.
All ceramic crown
● There are two basic families:
1. Low strength ,etchable, glass based ceramic
Example include: IPS empress esthetic, IPS
e.max, and traditional feldspathic porcelain.
2. High strength ,non etchable ceramics Alumina
based ceramics e.g inceram, procera, zirconia
based ceramics, procera, and zircon.
Porcelain jacket crown
● It was previously the first choice for
aesthetics in case where occlusal load is not
a problem now being superseded by newer
ceramic systems.
Porcelain jacket crown
Preparation criteria
● Axial and incisal reduction of 0.8-1mm,1.5-
2mm respectively.
● Should be made as esthetics material are
brittle in thin sections.
● Taper of 6° is recommended with no
undercuts.
Porcelain jacket crown
Preparation criteria
● Finish line are recommended to be chamfer
or 90° rounded shoulder because they
provide bulk at the margin and allow
transference of stresses adequately around
the margins.
Porcelain jacket crown
Preparation criteria
● Because of better esthetics of ACC in
comparison to MCC ,it is possible to have
margin supragingival or equigingival, with the
addition benefit of simpler impression taking
and better periodontal health.
Porcelain jacket crown
Preparation criteria
● Depth orientation grooves→(flat end tapered
diamond).
● Incisal reduction→(flat end tapered diamond).
● Palatal reduction→(incisal half of flat end
tapered diamond).
Porcelain jacket crown
Preparation criteria
● Labial reduction gingival half→(flat end
tapered diamond).
● Lingual reduction→(small wheel diamond).
Porcelain jacket crown
