about Lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that

India Celebrates Rabindranath Tagore’s 164th Birth
Anniversary: Honouring the Bard of Bengal
▪ Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti is celebrated on May 7 of each year
to honour the birth anniversary of the world-renowned poet,
writer, and Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore
▪ He was born on May 7, 1861 - the parents, Debendranath Tagore
and Sarada Devi in Kolkata
▪ According to the Bengali calendar, Rabindranath Jayanti is often
observed on the 25th day of the month of Boishakh.
▪ He became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize
in Literature in 1913 for Gitanjali

Akbar and refusal to accept subjugation.
▪ Famous Battle: Battle of Haldighati (1576) – Between Maharana
Pratap of Mewar and Mughal forces led by Man Singh I of Amber,
under Emperor Akbar.
▪ Result: Tactically inconclusive, but Mughals captured much of
Mewar. His loyal horse Chetak became legendary for bravery.
▪ Maharana Pratap never surrendered.

Maharashtra Government Announces Biopic on
Ahilyabai Holkar for 300th Birth Anniversary
▪ Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a series of decisions
centred around the legacy of erstwhile Indore queen Ahilyabai
Holkar.
▪ Among the decisions taken to mark Ahilyabai’s 300th birth
anniversary included development of her existing memorial at
Chaundi, several welfare measures for the Dhangar community
and a biographical film on her.
▪ For the first time, the state cabinet convened at Chondi village in
Ahilyanagar , the birthplace of Holkar.
Devi Ahilyabai Holkar
• Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar (31 May 1725 – 13 August 1795)
was the Holkar Queen of the Maratha Malwa kingdom,
India.
• Under her rule Malwa enjoyed relative peace, prosperity,
and stability, and her capital, Maheshwar, was turned into
an oasis of literary, musical, artistic, and industrial pursuits.
• She was military-trained under her father-in-law Malhar
Rao Holkar and personally led armies into battle.
▪ She was a great pioneer and builder of Hindu
temples and had built hundreds of temples and
Dharmashalas throughout India.
▪ Her most notable contribution was the renovation
and repair of the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple
in 1780.
▪ John Keay, the British historian, gave the queen the
title of ‘The Philosopher Queen’.
American prelate Robert Prevost elected as new Pope
▪ Chicago-born 69 years old American prelate Robert Francis Prevost
has been elected the new Pope, becoming the first American
pontiff in the history of the Catholic Church.
▪ He will take the pontifical name of Pope Leo XIV.
▪ Prevost is a member of the Augustinian order and has served in
Peru.
▪ The election, signified by white smoke from the Sistine Chapel
chimney, came after the conclave of 133 cardinals selected his
successor. The conclave required a two-thirds majority of 89 votes
to elect a new Pope.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a
one-year extension for CBI Director Praveen Sood, an IPS officer of
Karnataka cadre, beyond his scheduled retirement.
About Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI):
• The CBI is India’s premier investigating agency, tasked with
probing high-profile cases of corruption, economic offences, and
serious crimes.
• It is neither a constitutional nor a statutory body, but derives its
powers from the Delhi Special Police Establishment (DSPE) Act,
1946.
• Origin: Traces back to 1941, when the Special Police
Establishment (SPE) was set up during WWII.
▪ Formed as CBI: Officially established by a Home Ministry
resolution on 1 April 1963, following the recommendations of
the Santhanam Committee on Prevention of Corruption.

What are Central Information Commission (CIC) and
State Information Commissions (SIC)?
▪ The Central Information Commission CIC is a statutory body
constituted under section 12 of the Right to Information
Act, 2005, to promote transparency and accountability in
public authorities.
▪ Similar to CIC, SIC is also a statutory body constituted under
section 15 of the Right to Information Act, 2005.
PRASHAST App
▪ Delhi’s Directorate of Education introduced PRASHAST app for
early identification of students with disabilities.
▪ This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and
the Right to Education Act 2009, aiming to create equitable
learning environments.
▪ It also reinforces the obligations laid out by the Right to
Education (RTE) Act, 2009, which guarantees free and
compulsory education for all children, including those with
special needs.
Delhi to Conduct Five Cloud-Seeding Trials with IIT-
Kanpur’s Expertise
▪ The Delhi cabinet has made the significant decision to initiate
cloud seeding trials in the capital, aimed at reducing pollution
levels
▪ Each cloud-seeding trial is estimated to cost around Rs 55 lakh
▪ Cloud seeding, often referred to as artificial rain, is a method of
weather modification that involves the dispersal of specific
substances into the atmosphere to encourage moisture particles
to coalesce and form rain.
▪ IIT Kanpur will be responsible for the planning, implementation,
and oversight of these cloud seeding trials.
Types of Cloud Seeding
• Hygroscopic Cloud Seeding: Accelerates the merging of droplets in
liquid clouds, making them large enough to fall as rain.
• Glaciogenic Cloud Seeding: Introduces ice-forming agents into
supercooled clouds, converting water vapour into ice crystals, which
then melt into rain.
• Artificial rain refers to the process of inducing
precipitation through cloud seeding, a weather modification
technique.
• It is primarily used to enhance rainfall, combat drought conditions,
and reduce air pollution.
Pandit Lakhmi Chand Kalakar Samajik Samman Yojana

▪ The scheme offers a monthly honorarium of ₹10,000. Eligible

Eligibility Criteria

▪ Should have a minimum of 20 years of contribution to the arts.
▪ Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) will verify age and income details.
▪ Annual income of up to ₹1.80 lakh qualifies for full honorarium.
▪ Those earning between ₹1.80 lakh and ₹3 lakh will receive
₹7,000 monthly.

Affairs (MHA) directive to conduct
drills, various stakeholders conducted
the civil defence exercise, Operation
Abhyaas, at the Civil Defence
Headquarters at Ulsoor, Bengaluru,
Karnataka
Maharashtra Launches ‘Adishakti Abhiyan’ for
Women’s Empowerment
▪ The Adishakti Abhiyan aims to ensure the effective
implementation and awareness of various government schemes
for women and children
▪ The campaign will address key issues such as malnutrition, infant
and maternal mortality, domestic violence, sexual harassment, and
child marriage
▪ It will also promote increased participation of women in the
Panchayati Raj system.
▪ The government will also introduce the Adishakti
Awards to encourage active participation and reward
outstanding work.
▪ Gram Panchayats will be evaluated annually from
January 1 to December 31, and award ceremonies will be
held in the first week of March.
▪ Selection will occur at the taluka, district, and state levels.
▪ A total budget of ₹10.50 crore has been approved for the
campaign’s execution
Kerala Launches ‘Jyothi’ Scheme to Educate Migrant
Children
▪ The Kerala government has launched a comprehensive
initiative aimed at ensuring access to education for the
children of migrant workers.
▪ Titled "Jyothi", the programme seeks to bring all children
of migrant workers aged 3 to 6 into the anganwadis while
ensuring those aged 6 and above are fully integrated into
public schools.
Kozhikode Joins WHO’s Global Age-Friendly Cities
Network
▪ Kozhikode city has been honoured with another
global recognition in the form of a membership in
the World Health Organisation’s Global Network of
Age-friendly Cities and Communities (GNAFCC)
▪ With this membership, Kozhikode joins a network of
cities that formulate policies, provide services, and
develop infrastructure aimed at supporting the
elderly—helping them remain healthy, active, and
creative in old age
Biju Patnaik Memorial Unveiled in Delhi for Battle of
Stalingrad Contribution
▪ Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Russian
Ambassador Denis Alipov inaugurated a memorial plaque
dedicated to the late Biju Patnaik at the Russian Embassy in New
Delhi.
▪ The plaque is meant to honour Biju Patnaik’s role in the Battle of
Stalingrad, one of the most decisive Allied victories over Nazi
Germany in World War II.
▪ Patnaik, who at the time was flying for the Royal Indian Air Force,
had made multiple sorties dropping off supplies to the besieged
Red Army in Stalingrad.
▪ Patnaik joined the Royal Indian Air Force in 1936, mostly flying
supply and transport planes such as the Douglas C-47 Skytrain,
more commonly known as ‘Dakota’.
▪ As World War II heated up and Imperial Japan advanced through
Southeast Asia, Biju flew numerous sorties rescuing British
officials and their families.
▪ After his passing in 1997, his coffin was wrapped in the national
flags of three different countries: India, Indonesia (whose
Independence effort he had aided), and Russia.
Jenu Kuruba Tribe
▪ The Jenu Kuruba tribe has made headlines in 2025 for returning to
their ancestral village in the Nagarhole Tiger Reserve.
▪ This marks assertion of Indigenous rights in India. After being evicted
40 years ago, over 50 families have begun rebuilding their homes.
▪ Their return is driven by a spiritual connection to the land and a desire
to revive their traditional lifestyle.
▪ The Jenu Kuruba is recognized as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group
(PVTG), primarily found in the Kodagu and Mysore districts of
Karnataka.
▪ The name "Jenu Kuruba" originates from Kannada, where "jenu"
means honey. This name reflects their traditional occupation of
honey collection, gathering food, and managing forest produce.
▪ The Jenu Kuruba community's primary sources of income have
historically been land and forest resources.
▪ They are also referred to by the names "Then Kurumba" or "Kattu
Naikar."
▪ They live in small settlements called Hadi.
INS Kiltan reached Singapore for IMDEX Asia 2025
▪ Indian Naval Ship INS Kiltan arrived in Singapore to participate
in the international maritime defence exhibition IMDEX Asia
2025 at the Changi Exhibition Centre.
▪ IMDEX Asia was first organized in 1997 and provides an
international venue to showcase the latest developments in
maritime defence technology and to foster dialogue on
contemporary maritime security challenges and opportunities
About INS Kiltan:
• It is an indigenously-built anti-submarine warfare stealth
corvette.
• This is the third of the four Kamorta-class corvettes built
under Project 28.
• All of the four corvettes, INS Kamorta, INS Kadmatt, INS Kiltan
and INS Kavaratti were commissioned in 2014, 2016, 2017 and
2020 respectively
• INS Kiltan derives its name from one of the islands in the

Piprahwa Relics
▪ India has issued a legal notice to Sotheby’s auction house and
the Peppé family, demanding the immediate halt of an auction of
ancient relics from Piprahwa Stupa, believed to be linked to Lord
Buddha’s cremated remains.
▪ The Piprahwa Relics include bone fragments, soapstone and crystal
caskets, a sandstone coffer, and offerings such as gold ornaments
and gemstones
• Excavated in 1898 by William Claxton Peppé in Piprahwa,
Siddharthnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, near the Nepal border.
• The Site was identified as part of ancient Kapilavastu, capital of
the Shakya republic, the clan of Prince Siddhartha (Buddha).
Historical Significance:
• Peppé unearthed what is believed to be one of the original
eight stupas containing Buddha’s remains after his cremation
(~480 BCE).
• The Sakya clan, Buddha’s kin, are believed to have constructed
the stupa to enshrine his relics.
• The relics are spiritually revered by Buddhists globally and
considered intangible religious heritage.
• Legal and Ethical Dispute:
• Under the Indian Treasure Trove Act, 1878, most relics went to
the Indian Museum, Kolkata..
• However, 1/5th of the find, considered duplicates, was retained
by Peppé’s family—these are now being auctioned.
• Reasons behind India’ objection:
• India argues the relics are sacred and inalienable cultural
property.
• The sale violates international norms, including:
• UNESCO Conventions on Cultural Property
• UNIDROIT Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural
Objects.

▪ A new study reveals that Indonesia’s Anak Krakatau volcano, which
collapsed catastrophically in 2018 causing a deadly tsunami,
showed warning signs years in advance.
About Anak Krakatau Volcano:
• Location: Anak Krakatau (“Child of Krakatoa”) is located in the Sunda
Strait, between Java and Sumatra in Indonesia.
• Volcano Type: Stratovolcano
• Tectonic Context: Situated at the convergent boundary between the
Indo-Australian and Eurasian plates.
• It is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, a seismically active zone encircling
the Pacific Ocean.
