Solutions to Given Questions

58. F = (9/5)C + 32

(i) C = 35 => F = (9/5)*35 + 32 = 95°F

(ii) C = 30 => F = (9/5)*30 + 32 = 86°F

59. 2x + 3y = 6

x-intercept: y = 0 then x = 3 --> (3, 0)

y-intercept: x = 0 then y = 2 --> (0, 2)

60. 3x + 4y = 12, x = 8 --> 3*8 + 4y = 12 --> y = -3

61. y = x and 2y = -5x --> y = -5x/2

62. 5x + 7 = 0

(i) In one variable: x = -7/5

(ii) In two variables: vertical line x = -7/5

63. x - 2y = 7, check (1,2): 1 - 4 = -3 not equal to 7 --> Not a solution

64. 3x - y = 4, passes through (p, -4): 3p + 4 = 4 --> p = 0

65. 2x + 3y = -5 and x + y = -1

From second: x = -1 - y

Substitute: 2(-1 - y) + 3y = -5 --> y = -3 --> x = 2

Point of intersection: (2, -3)

66. 7x - y = 8

A(1, -1): 7 + 1 = 8 --> Yes

B(2, 6): 14 - 6 = 8 --> Yes

C(0, -8): 0 + 8 = 8 --> Yes

67. 3y = 8x --> -8x + 3y = 0

y = 8x/3 --> Solutions: (0,0), (3,8), infinitely many

68. x + y = 25 (Rohan and Ramita)

x = 0 --> y = 25 --> (0,25)

y = 0 --> x = 25 --> (25,0)
