HbsAg is a screening test for hepatts B based on the detecton of Hepatts B Surface Antgen.
At SALMAN CHUGHTAI'S LAB this test is performed on the state of the art Maglumi 1000: Fully
Automated Chemiluminescence Immunoassay Analyser.
Borderline results are reported afer rechecking on a second instrument. These results represent a
gray zone.
Some of these cases are due to early HBV infecton, while others are false borderline positve.
Patents with borderline results should have the test repeated in 6-8 weeks.
Reactve HbsAg may be due to current or past Hepatts B infecton. These resuls should be interpreted in con-junctons with the patent's clinical state as well
as other markers for HBV infecton such as HBeAg, Ant HBe, Liver Functon test and HBV Viral load by PCR. Therapy for Hepatts B should be started afer one
reactve HbsAg test result.
