Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice Review (by Isaac Agorsor)

Zack Snyder creates another comic inspired movie as a follow-up to his 2013 film Man of Steel, He used the iconic
DC hero Superman but adds three new characters from the growing shared universe: Batman, Wonder Woman,
and the evil Lex Luthor.
Now before I start the review, let me give you a brief summary of the movie. We’re given a reminder that in
Gotham City, a young Bruce Wayne watched his parents get murdered in an alley for the sake of Martha Wayne’s
pearls, Bruce fleeing the funeral in his grief discovers the bat cave system under the family mansion that led to his
future identity. In present day it turns out Bruce was at ground zero in Metropolis back when Zod was destroying
the planet, and he personally experienced the cost of having Supermen fight it out in the middle of the city. Bruce
helps his people. But the irreversible damage is done, and the cost is too high. Lois is still doing front line
journalism in the Sahara interviewing warlords. The warlords discover that her photographer Jimmy Olsen is a CIA
spy with a tracking device which gets him killed. The tracker device on Olsen allows a US drone strike to pinpoint
their location. Superman decreases the explosion of the drone strike and decides to handle it personally in order to
save Lois life.
A private security firm get one of the local women to give a false testimony that Superman was in fact just casually
murdering everyone at the Sahara. We find out that Lois and Clark (Superman) have a secret relationship. This
scares Lois because she thinks people will find out about their undercover relationship. Meanwhile over in Gotham,
police discover a human trafficking ring but the Batman is one step ahead of them, beating the living juice and I
mean the absolute living juice out of the criminals and branding them with his mark. Back at the Batcave Alfred is
upgrading Batman’s armour and Bruce is hunting after Anatoli, in order to find a weapon Anatoli is trying to
smuggle into Gotham. Superman’s presence in the world has changed, leaving people feeling powerless and
turning good men cruel.

Yeah, Blah Blah Blah now you may be asking yourself “What is the purpose of this movie, why is Batman the caped
crusader fighting Superman the Man of Steel?” Well, it was the first time Batman has met Superman an alien from
another planet. His first impression of Clark was at the end of Man of Steel (The movie) when Superman and Zod
were absolutely annihilating Metropolis. I don’t think Clark realized that Batman was there to see the destruction,
well guess what Clark, he was there to see all of it, after all that’s the reason why Batman wanted to kill Superman,
because Bruce thought of Clark as a threat.
Now onto the review, I bet that’s what you’re here for. In my opinion the characters are misplaced without any
proper explanation. Batman (Ben Affleck) avoids killing Superman (Henry Cavill) only because he finds out that
both their mothers are named Martha. The duo along with Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) who serves no particular
purpose in the storyline goes off to fight the villain of the movie which takes the entire storyline out of context.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice fails on keeping the viewers interested because of the dent in the plot
and dips and changes in the storyline.
If a movie has been adapted from a comic book or novel, viewers and readers expect the story to be as interesting
if not more interesting than the book. Batman is famous for the methods he uses while fighting crimes. He is
known for creating high tech gadgets and using his skills to physically disable the opponent without killing them.
He is also known for how disciplined he is and how he sets his own rules to follow by. But Batman vs Superman:
Dawn of Justice is not like that, it’s not interesting as a movie and it’s not even close to been as interesting as
the comics. In the animated movie, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises the superhero (Peter Weller) can be seen
using rubber bullets against an army of mutants so that it only hurts them physically. Moreover, in the movie, the
Joker persuades Batman to kill him. After a brief moment of self-control, Batman doesn’t forget his own rules. On
failing to persuade the disciplined superhero, Joker kills himself by snapping his neck. Even during the final battle
with Superman (Jerry Siegel), Batman only threatens to kill Superman. Batman’s goal is still the same, and that’s
protecting the people of Gotham at any cost without any personal emotions. This shows how in the animated
movie, the fundamentals of the characters do not change. Um which is the opposite in the live action movie
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
I absolutely hate the fact that the live action movie that has good visual effects and a huge budget has messed up
the storyline and plot. This shows me and the other audiences that the movie just pays attention on the visual
effects. Yes, sure visual effects are good and all but it’s just eye-candy, at the end of the day fans go to see a
movie or a series for the storyline and plot. A good storyline has to keep the audience guessing and sitting at the
edge their seat, which Dawn of Justice really doesn’t do. I would tell you my favourite scene but since they are
the only scenes that you will enjoy, I won’t spoil it for you.
To conclude this review, i will admit I am a DC comic fan but when it comes to movies, I would rather watch Marvel
anytime of the week, wouldn’t you? As I said before although the movie has good visual effect, it does not change
the fact that the plot is so unstable and dented. For me personally watching Batman vs superman is a complete
waste of time it doesn’t even contribute to the next instalment for the Warner bros DC movie which is Justice
League. Oh yeah before I finish my review, another thing I hate is the doom and gloom effect throughout the
whole movie. I guess it might be some people’s style, but I like the Marvel style colourful type movies. Finally for
the rating I would rate it 4 out of 10.
