Detection of Antibodies to Hepatitis C Virus

Test Observed Values Biological Reference Interval

Anti HCV Test Result Non Reactive Non Reactive

Method: EIA (Enzyme Immunoassay) on serum sample.

General Interpretation

This Test is a screening test only, Reactive test results are not diagnostic and should be confirmed with Quantitative HCV antibody titres or
HCV PCR assays. False test positive results (reactive results) may be seen in auto immune liver disorders. Non Reactive test result does
not exclude possibility of exposure to or infection with HCV virus. Past infections with HCV may also give test results reactive which can be
confirmed with HCV IgM titres. Advised correlation with clinical findings in test reactive (positive) cases.

Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Detection

Test Observed Values Biological Reference Interval

HbsAg Test Result Non Reactive Non Reactive

Method: Membrane Immunoassay on serum sample.

General Interpretation

HbsAg / Australia Antigen Detection is a screening test only. All reactive test results should be confirmed with confirmatory quantitative
tests only.

If this test result is reactive for HbsAg then :

* Do not donate blood till HbsAg test result is Non Reactive,

* Advised HbeAg (EAG) & Anti HBc-Total test to check for seroconversion / carrier state.
* Repeat HbsAg after every 4 months till test results are non reactive.

HIV 1 & 2 Test Result Non Reactive Non Reactive

Method / Principle:Membrane Immunoassay (J. Mitra) on serum sample.

General Interpretation

This test is only a screening test detecting antibodies to HIV 1 & 2. Reactive test result is not diagnostic of AIDS. Whereas Non Reactive
test result does not exclude the possibility of exposure or infection with HIV virus. Confirmation with HIV PCR or Western Blot is advised
before clinical confirmation of reactive test result.
