Spherical Trigonometry Problems

This document presents 7 problems of spherical trigonometry that students must solve. The problems include calculating the spherical excess of a triangle, determining the area and perimeter of spherical triangles given their sides and angles, and calculating distances between points on Earth using their latitude and longitude coordinates. Students must submit their answers on Google Drive by a deadline and will be evaluated according to a rubric.

Spherical trigonometry problems.

Objective:

Calculate the distance between two points on the planet, using spherical trigonometry, for
that this measure be as close to reality as possible.

Instructions:

Solve the following exercises correctly:

Calculate the spherical excess of a spherical triangle with the following internal angles:
55°
A right spherical triangle is inscribed in a sphere with a radius of 6 units.
Calculate its area if its third angle is 60°.
3. Determine the perimeter of the polar triangle of the spherical triangle whose angles are 40°,
100° and 110°.
4. Calculate the distance between points A and B located on the Earth's surface, being
the geographic longitudes and latitudes of A and B are the following:
Longitude A = 4°55’10” West.
Longitude B= 12°10’East.
Latitude of A = 44°36' North.
Latitude B= 40°10'20" North.
Calculate the area, the spherical excess of the spherical triangle: A = 40°30 ’; B= 109°20 ’; c=
120°10' with the radius r = 40m
6. Calculate the sides of a spherical triangle knowing the three angles:
54°42’10”
7. Solve the following spherical triangles given two sides and the included angle:
73°58'58"
