Practical No. 2
Aim: To acquire, visualize and analyze the data set.
Objectives:
The objective of this experiment is to familiarize students with the process of acquiring, visualizing, and
analyzing datasets, which are essential steps in any data-driven project.

Introduction to Data Acquisition and Analysis:

Data acquisition involves obtaining raw data from various sources, such as databases, APIs, or files.
Once data is acquired, it needs to be preprocessed, visualized, and analyzed to gain insights and make
informed decisions.

1. Data Acquisition:
Data acquisition involves obtaining raw data from different sources.
Example: Consider a dataset containing information about housing prices, including features like square
footage, number of bedrooms, number of bathrooms, and location. This dataset can be acquired from online
sources, real estate databases, or government agencies.

Steps in Data Acquisition:

Identify Data Sources: Determine where the desired data can be found.
Retrieve Data: Obtain the dataset from the identified source, whether it's downloading a file, querying a
database, or using an API.
Data Format Conversion: Convert the data into a format suitable for analysis, such as CSV, Excel, or
JSON.

2. Data Visualization:

Data visualization is the process of representing data graphically to gain insights and identify patterns.

Example: Using the housing price dataset, visualize the distribution of house prices across different
locations using a geographical map or plot histograms to show the distribution of square footage and prices.

Steps in Data Visualization:

Choose Visualization Tools: Select appropriate tools and libraries for data visualization, such as
Matplotlib, Seaborn, or Plotly.

Explore Data: Examine the dataset to identify relevant features and potential insights.
Select Visualization Techniques: Determine the most suitable visualization techniques based on the nature
of the data and the questions to be answered.
Create Visualizations: Generate plots, charts, or graphs to represent the data effectively.
Interpret Results: Analyze the visualizations to uncover patterns, trends, or anomalies in the data.

3. Data Analysis:
Data analysis involves examining the dataset to extract meaningful insights and make data-driven
decisions.
Example: Analyze the housing price dataset to identify factors that influence house prices, such as location,
size, and amenities.

Steps in Data Analysis:

Descriptive Statistics: Calculate summary statistics, such as mean, median, standard deviation, and
quartiles, to describe the dataset.
Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA): Explore the relationships between variables using techniques like
scatter plots, correlation matrices, and box plots.
Hypothesis Testing: Test hypotheses or assumptions about the data using statistical tests, such as t-tests or
ANOVA, to determine if observed differences are statistically significant.
Pattern Recognition: Identify patterns, trends, or outliers in the data through visual inspection or statistical
analysis.
Insights Generation: Draw conclusions and generate insights from the data analysis to inform decision-
making processes.

Conclusion:

This experiment provides students with hands-on experience in acquiring, visualizing, and analyzing
datasets, which are fundamental skills in data science and machine learning.

By working with real-world datasets and applying various techniques for data manipulation and analysis,
students develop a deeper understanding of the data-driven decision-making process and gain valuable skills
applicable across various domains.
