PART 2 – Reading Comprehension

Reading Text

Natural disasters often happen without warning, and knowing how to react can
save lives. During an earthquake, the ground may shake violently while buildings
move around you. People are advised to stay calm and take shelter under strong
furniture until the shaking stops. Running outside while the ground is still moving
can be extremely dangerous.
Other natural events, such as storms and lightning, also require careful behaviour.
When lightning strikes, electricity travels between clouds and the ground in a
fraction of a second. People should remain indoors during storms and avoid open
spaces until the weather becomes safe again. Understanding these safety rules
helps reduce injuries and protects lives.

Although natural disasters cannot be prevented, people can prepare for them.
Schools and communities often practise safety drills so that everyone knows what
to do while danger is present and after it has passed.
