Bacterial Reproduction

The document summarizes bacterial reproduction, which can occur asexually or sexually. Asexual reproduction occurs through four main methods: binary fission, budding, fragmentation, and spore formation. Binary fission involves a cell dividing after forming a transverse septum. Sexual reproduction involves the fusion of nuclei from two parent cells and can occur through processes like gametic copulation or gametangial copulation. Bacterial conjugation allows for the transfer of plasmids containing genes from a donor to a recipient cell through a cytoplasmic bridge formed by pili.

Bacterial Reproduction

Introduction
Bacteria can reproduce in one of two ways:
1.

Asexually
2.

Sexually

Asexual Reproduction
It is also known as somatic or vegetative reproduction. There are four types of reproduction method:-

1.Binary Fission 2.Budding 3.Fragmentation 4.Spore Formation

BINARY FISSION
In this single cell divides after devolping a transverse septum. Eg. Bacillus Subtilis

BINARY FISSION

BUDDING:- A process in which small bud develops at one end of the cell, inlarges and inventially develops into a new cell which separate from the spirits. Eg. Rhodopseudomonas acidophilas. FRAGMENTATION:- Fragmentation of the filament into small bacillary or coccoid cells, each of which give rise to new cells. Each filaments develop other five filaments. Eg. Nocardia.

SPORE FORMATION:-Asexual spores whose function is to disimate the species are produce in large number. There are many kinds.
SPORANGIOSPORES:- These are the single

celled spores which are form in a SAC called sporangia at the end of special hayphae is called sporangiospores. These are of two types. a} Ablanospores- These are normal type sporangia. b} Zoospores- These are mortile type sporangia.

CONIDIOSPORES:- These are the small single cell spores present at the tip or side of hyphae. ARTHROSPORES:- These are single cell spores which are formed by disjointing of hyphae cells. CHLONYDOSPORES:-These are the thick wall single cell spores which are highly resistant to adverse conditions . They are formed from the cells of vegetative hyphae. BLASTOSPORES:-These are formed by budding on the side oh hyphae.

Sexual Reproduction
This is carried out by the fusion of compatible nuclei of two parent cells.
The various methods of sexual reproduction can be some divides as followed:-

1.GAMETIC COPULLATION- Two gametes of two parent cell fuse together. 2.GAMETE GAMETANGIAL COPULLATION- In this two gametangia come into contact but do not fuse.

3.GAMETANGIAL COPULLATION- In this two gametangia fuse together. 4.SOMATIC COPULLATION- There is fusion of somatic or vegetative cell. TYPES OF SEXUAL SPORES 1. ASCOSPORES 2. BACIDIOSPORES 3. ZYGOSPORES 4. OOSPORES
