Acid Base Indicator

This document provides instructions for students to conduct an experiment on acid-base indicators: 1. Students will be grouped and asked to analyze natural indicators that can determine the pH of acid and base solutions. 2. The experiment involves testing different calcium carbonate samples with hydrochloric acid to observe any reactions and which sample causes a balloon to inflate first, indicating a gas has been produced. 3. Students are directed to write a hypothesis, identify variables, conduct the experiment by following procedures, record observations, analyze their data, and make a conclusion.

ACID BASE INDICATOR

This solution Acid or

Base.....??????
In this Lesson....,,
You have to be able to:
Student analyze the natural indicator that can
used to determine the pH of acid base solution
Student can analyze the kinds of nature materials
that used as indicators.
Doing experiment about acid-base indicator
orderly and correctly
Student can analyze data of experiment with
their group sincerely

Example of Phenomenon:
This day 11 science 4 class will do an experiment. In the table
there is CaCO3 in two phase, the first is powder CaCo3 and
the second is some granule of CaCO3, HCl solution, 2 pieces
Erlenmeyer flask, and 2 pieces balloon. Okso and Arif is a
student of 11 science 4 class, they first put the two kind of
CaCO3 in balloon and then in each Erlenmeyer flask they pour
10 ml HCl solution. Then they immersed the balloon in mouth of
flask. After that they pour the CaCO3 to flask with poured
from balloon. They wait until the balloon that the first will
stand up and filled with the gas. They was surprised when they
look that CaCO3 powder was the first mixture that can make
balloon stand up.
This problem base on the phenomenon

1. Why the reaction between CaCO3 powder and HCl solution can make
the balloon stand up first ?

Write your Hypothesis here:

The caused that can make balloon stand up in reaction

between CaCO3 powder and HCl solution it cause the
difference of surface area from CaCO3

Variable

Dependent : Balloon, mass of CaCO3, volume of HCl,

concentration of HCl

Independent : CaCO3 formed

Responses : which reaction that make balloon stand

up first

Based on Tikis problem,
Write the problem state in
your worksheet
What is the Hypothesis...??

And can you found the

Variable based on
phenomenon??
Do the experiment NOW....
Dont forget to check the
tools and materials, also
write the procedure
Write your Observation
result ....
Analyze your Experiment
