 What is sex selection?
Practice of determining the sex of an unborn foetus and
eliminating it if found to be female. sex selection is also referred to
as pre-natal elimination of girls.

What is female
foeticide?

• It is defined as aborting a female foetus after sex determination

test.
• Ultrasonography helps determine abnormalities in the fetus, but it
is misused to find out sex of the foetus and abortion is done if it is a
9
girl.
Root Cause of Sex determination
 Poverty
 Lack of Education
 Low status of women and girls in a male
dominated society
 The culture of son preference
 Monitoring of foetus sex determination
 Obsession for Son.
 Fear of dowry by many poor class families.
 Girls are considered as financial obligation by
many parents.
 Advancement in technology , nowadays parent
determines the sex of a child before birth.
 Some of the doctors do this heinous act to
fulfill their money desire.
