Gaze
When we look at someone else our gaze can sometimes be interpreted as if we are
saying “ I am the powerful one here.”
to look at something or someone for a long time, especially in surprise or admiration
, or because you are thinking about something else:
Manet based the composition of this painting on The Venus of Urbino, by
Titan. Olympia is the painting of a reclining nude woman, tended to by a maid while
a black cat (far right) gazes mysteriously out at the viewer. The maid is
presenting Olympia with a gift of flowers, presumably a gift from a lover. Which
shows power in 1863.
Images in which the subject looks directly at the viewer can have a powerful or disconcerting effect.

Framing
In visual arts and particularly cinematography, framing
is the presentation of visual elements in an
image, especially the placement of the subject in
relation to other objects. Framing can make an image
more aesthetically pleasing and keep the viewer's focus
on the framed object (s)
elementsin a layout can be disconnected and marked off from
each other or connected. If elements are cut off from one
another they are strongly framed. Framing can be achieved by
borders, this discontinuities of color and shape, for my white
space. Connectedness can be achieved by vectors and devices
such as overlapping or superimposition of images.
Social Distance
A close-up is intimate and creates a connection with
the viewer whilst a long shot creates objectivity and
distance. With a long shot or an objective image of
you is not drawn into involvement with the image.
Meaning comes from the symbolic connection made
by the reader.
