Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a joint disorder of the jaw that is commonly found in daily dental practice. The causes of TMD are still not clearly understood and are likely multifactorial, due to functional disorders and structural abnormalities. The most common causes are things like tooth loss, bad habits (bruxism, chewing on one side, resting chin on one side). Ultrasonography can be used to visualize the temporomandibular joint and identify anatomical structures and differences between sexes. The temporomandibular joint has variability in its arterial blood supply that is important for surgeons to understand. Device breakage during mandibular distraction can occur unexpectedly and requires careful management.

Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) adalah
suatu gangguan sendi rahang yang sering
ditemukan dalam praktek dokter gigi sehari-
hari. Penyebab gangguan TMD masih belum
jelas diketahui kemungkinannya
multifaktoral, karena gangguan fungsional
dan kelainan struktural. Penyebab terbanyak
seperti kehilangan gigi, kebiasaan buruk
(bruxism, mengunyah satu sisi, bertopang
dagu sebelah sisi)
