Simple Present Tense

•First of all use of simple present tense

•There are two use of this tense
1. Habitual action…means the action which we
do daily or regularly. For example= I brush my
teeth everyday.
2. Universal truth…it means the sentences which
are true in every corner of the world. For
example= Sun rises in the East.
• Now how to write Simple Present Tense
• There is a particular sentence formation for each and
every tense and its passive voice.
• S.F.= SUB + V1 [S or ES] +OBJ
• For example = he brushes his teeth everyday.
• In this sentence he is a subject , brush is v1 and teeth
is object.
• Now whenever we want to write 3rd person singular
that is HE, SHE, IT or any NAME…we have to put S or
ES after verb…but please remember only with 3rd
PERSON SINGULAR and not with any other like we
cannot put S or ES with I, WE, YOU, THEY.
• For example = I brush my teeth everyday.
• Now when to put S and when to put ES.
• When the verb is ending with letters S, SS, SH, CH, O
and X….we have to put ES…with rest of the verbs ,
we will only put S.
• Like we have seen= he brushes his teeth…here HE is
a 3rd person singular that is why I have put ES after
verb BRUSH…..and verb BRUSH is ending with SH
that is why I have put ES.
• Sun rises in the East…here Sun is 3rd person singular
that is why I have put S after RISE.
• In a same way..Earth moves around the Sun.
• EVERYDAY, ALWAYS, DAILY, REGULARLY, FREQUENTLY
are some of the indicators of simple present tense.
• Negative sentence
• He brushes his teeth….this is a positive sentence.
• He does not brush his teeth….this is a negative
sentence.
• In negative sentence of simple present tense we have
to put DOES NOT with 3rd PERSON SINGULAR ….and
when we put Does Not in a sentence WE HAVE TO
REMOVE S OR ES AFTER VERB…like
• He does not BRUSH his teeth….i have not put ES after
Brush because I have put Does Not as it is a negative
sentence.
• With I, WE, YOU, THEY…we will put DO NOT.
• For example= I do not brush my teeth.
• Interrogative sentence
• Does he brush his teeth….this is an interrogative sentence of simple
present tense with 3rd person singular.
• With the 3rd person singular we will put Does and with other we will put
Do.
• For example
• Does he brush his teeth?
• Do I brush my teeth?
• Here when we give the ans of que like= Does he brush his teeth??..Yes, he
BRUSHES his teeth.
• Again when we ans in a positive manner we have to put S or ES after verb
because we have to remove Does.
• And the negative ans is like= No, he DOES NOT BRUSH his teeth.
• With others
• Do I brush my teeth….positive= Yes, I brush my teeth and negative= No, I
do not brush my teeth.
• IN SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE WE HAVE TO JUST BE CAREFUL ABOUT 3RD
PERSON SINGULAR.
• Passive Voice of Simple Present Tense
• S.F = OBJ + IS/AM/ARE + V3 + BY + SUB.
• I play cricket …this is an active sentence,
• Passive = cricket is played by me.
• Here whether to put IS or ARE is completely dependent on
object….for example
• A = I eat banana
• P = Banana IS eaten by me
• BUT
• A = I eat bananas [ here obj is plural]
• P = Bananas ARE eaten by me.
• It is not necessary every time to put BY and SUB at the end
of passive sentence…for example…
• I am given salary…this is also a passive voice due to AM +
V3.

speaking.

• S.F = SUB + IS/AM/ARE + VERB[ING] + OBJ

• Meaning of this sentence is that action of teaching is
going on right now.
• Words like NOW, RIGHT NOW are some indicators of this
tense.

put NOT after IS/AM/ARE.
• For example = I am not teaching English.
• You are not learning.
• Interrogative Sentence
• Again it is quit easy..we have to put IS/AM/ARE at
the start of the sentence.
• For example = Am I teaching English?
• Are you learning?
• Passive Voice of Continuous Present Tense
• S.F = OBJ + IS/AM/ARE + BEING + V3 + BY + SUB
• English is being taught by me.
• This means the action of teaching is going on right
now.
• Again here also, whether we have to put IS/ARE is
dependent on obj.
• For example = bananas are being eaten by me.
• Banana is being eaten by me.
• Here again BY and SUB is not necessary at the end of

• That means the action of playing cricket is completed recently.
• RECENTLY, JUST, ALREADY, EVER, YET are some of the indicators of
this tense.
• These three words are the indicators of perfect present tense but
we can also write perfect present tense without these words
• Here in this tense if we want to speak like I have gone to
Ahmedabad….we can speak like I HAVE BEEN TO AHMEDABAD.
• Here in this sentence been is a v3 of BE.
• Negative Sentence
• We have to just put NOT after HAVE/HAS in the
sentence to make it negative.
• It is quit easy
• For example = I have not played cricket.
• Interrogative Sentence
• We have to put HAVE/HAS at the start of
sentence to make it interrogative.
• For example = Have you done your work ??
• Passive Voice of Perfect Present Tense
• S.F. = OBJ + HAVE/HAS + BEEN + V3 + BY + SUB
• For example
• Cricket has been played by me
• Here again obj will decide that whether to put HAVE/HAS.
• If obj is singular then HAS and if plural than HAVE.
• For example
