TECHNOLOGY AND IT
Technology has long influenced how public
relations practitioners do their work. Once
typed on paper and sent via mail or fax, press
releases are now produced on a computer
and delivered via email.
The development of recent technology
influence the work and speed of
disseminating the information for Public
Relations.

FOR PUBLIC RELATIONS
1. Mobile telephones :
A mobile phone is a wireless handheld device that
allows users to make calls and send text messages, among
other features. It can be used in Public Relations as a medium
to communicate with others in disseminating the
information
2. Palm computers ( PDA ) :
Very small, lightweight device (literally fits in the palm)
which provides functionality approaching that of a
laptop computer. It can be used for Public Relations to
managing the office work while mobile

3. Satellite television
A television system in which the signal is
transmitted to an orbiting satellite that receives the
signal and amplifies it and transmits it back to earth
It can be used for Public Relations as a medium to
communicate to the larger audience
4. Video conferencing:
A means of communicating in both sound and vision
over great distance. It can be used in Public
Relations for holding a conferences, meeting,
presentation and demonstration

5. Close circuit television (CCTV) :
A similar means of communicating in sound and
vision – but its reach is confined to the building it is in.
It can be used in Public Relations for security (
prevention to the crime) protecting the business

An electronic machine that is used for storing,
organizing, and finding words, numbers, and pictures,
for doing calculations, and for controlling other

Desktop Publishing
Desktop Publishing :
A software program that allows many types of
publications to be compiled, prepared and proofed
ready for final printing.
Desktop publishing allows Public Relations writer and
editor to design and layout reports, newsletter,
brochures and presentations by manipulating copy
and graphics right on a computer screen instead of on a
drawing board.
The Communication Explosion
The explosive growth of the Internet during the 1990’s has
created a form of mass communication unlike all others.
What is internet? Internet is a global system of
interconnected computer network. It is a network of
network that consists of millions of computers both private
and public from local to global scope that are linked.

The internet gives Public Relations practitioners a many
– faceted form of worldwide communication, primarily
involving message exchange by e-mail, information
delivery and persuasion by its World Wide Web and
research opportunities.

Is a web page used to locate information on the
internet.

As a tool, search engine enables the users to find
the information on the world wide networking.
The most well accepted examples of the search
engines are the Google, MSN and Yahoo search.

The Internet now has an immeasurable amount of
valuable information. Search engines are necessary for
locating, sorting, storing and ranking the value of that
information on the web.
2. Registering
Public Relations need to register and submitted the
site’s page manually to GOOGLE,YAHOO and Bing as
they have implemented to protect themselves from
extreme levels of SPAM.
3. The use of meta – tags
META tags influence the way some search engines
list and index web pages.

The site provide a way for organization to tell internet users what they do,
publicize projects and advocate policies.
Usenet Discussion group
Individuals concerned with a certain issue discuss it by making comments
and reading the responses of other participants. Sometimes this exchange
is called electronic bulletin board. Usenet group also are used for audience
research, in which a participant requests opinions and facts.
