EXPONENTIAL
TECHNOLOGY
TOPIC : DATA VALUE CHAIN
Data Value Chain
 The Data Value Chain is introduced to describe the information
flow within a big data system as a series of steps needed to
generate value and useful insights from data.

 The data value chain describes the full data lifecycle from
collection to analysis and usage

 Different stages in which each data is been transformed to

information
Data Value Chain
DATA ACQUISITION
 It is the process of gathering, filtering, and cleaning data before
it is put in a data warehouse or any other storage solution on
which data analysis can be carried out.

 Clearly the first step in the value chain is acquiring the data. The
actual source of the data may vary: data may be internally
generated or obtained externally; may be passively or actively
created by a human, a sensor or a system, may be structured or
unstructured in form.
DATA ANALYSIS
 Data analysis involves exploring, transforming, and modelling data with
the goal of highlighting relevant data, synthesizing and extracting useful
hidden information with high potential from a business point of view.
 Related areas include data mining, business intelligence, and machine
learning.
 Data Mining is a technique to extract important and vital information
and knowledge from a huge dataset.
 Data mining could be called as a subset of Data Analysis. It is the
exploration and analysis of huge knowledge to find important patterns
and rules.
TYPES OF DATA ANALYSIS

 Descriptive analysis

 Diagnostic analysis

 Predictive analysis

 Prescriptive analysis
DATA CURATION
 It is the active management of data over its life cycle to ensure it
meets the necessary data quality requirements for its effective
usage.

 Data curation processes can be categorized into different

activities such as content creation, selection, classification,
transformation, validation, and preservation.

 Data Curation enhances the long-term value of existing data by

making it available for further high-quality research.
DATA STORAGE
 Data storage refers to magnetic, optical or mechanical media
that records and preserves digital information for ongoing or
future operations.

 Direct area storage, or direct-attached storage (DAS), is as the

name implies. This storage is often in the immediate area and
directly connected to the computing machine accessing it.

 Network-based storage allows more than one computer to access

it through a network, making it better for data sharing and
collaboration.
DATA USAGE
 It covers the data-driven business activities that need access to
data, its analysis, and the tools needed to integrate the data
analysis within the business activity.

 Data usage in business decision making can enhance

competitiveness through the reduction of costs, increased added
value, or any other parameter that can be measured against
existing performance criteria.
DATA USAGE
 Empowers business leaders

 Data Driven Business Decisions

 Reduction of costs,

 Finding New customer

 Increased customer retention

 Better insights about the target customers

 Strategies, innovative policies, SOPs – redefined

 Align the data with organizational activities
