Introduction to Story Writing

Story-writing is an art and the oldest form of written


composition. It is a work of imagination that should be
clear and easily intelligible. A Short story is meant to be
read in a single sitting and should be as direct and brief
as possible. It is usually written in “easily
understandable grammatical structure” with a
“natural flow of speech”.

Characters:
• Rule: Fewer is better.
• Ideal: One protagonist, one other main character, no side characters.
• Characterization: Use perfect adjectives and examples without overdoing it.

Setting:
• Components: Time frame and place.
• Description: Scenes like supermarket, bedroom, metro train, drizzling evening.
• Importance: It immerses the reader in the plot.

Plot:
