Quality Indicator

Quality indicators are essential for monitoring the quality of care in hospitals, as required by NABH accreditation. They are classified into four types: patient safety assurance, non-clinical, diagnostic non-clinical, and hospital infection control, each with specific metrics for evaluation. Examples include the incidence of patient falls, critical equipment downtime, and needle stick injuries, all of which help assess the level of care provided.

QUALITY INDICATOR

Presented by AQC
Definition Indicator
Quality Indicators are the backbone on
which quality assurance programme of a
hospital relies.
 NABH accreditation expects hospitals to
calculate several quality indicators and use
it for monitoring the quality of care.
Indicators are the source of information
which detects the level of care in the
organization
Classification of indicator
Broadly we can classify the indicators into 4
types:-
Patient’s safety assurance indicator.

Non clinical indicator.

Diagnostic non clinical indicator.

Hospital infection control.

Classification of indicator
Patient’s safety assurance indicator :
 Incidence of fall.
 Percentage of medical record having
incomplete and/or improper consent.
Non clinical indicator :
 Critical equipment downtime.
 No. of complaint received in a month.
 Feedback analysis.
Classification of indicator
Diagnostic non clinical indicator :-
 No. of radiological reporting errors per 1000
investigation.
 Percentage of RE-Dos in radiology.
 Safety audit precaution.
Hospital infection control:-
 Incident of needle stick injury.
Indicator
Patient’s safety assurance indicator:
