A sample INTERACTIVE LISTENING LESSON

INSPIRING GREATNESS
What you need for the lesson
1. A map of KZN which shows where
Scottburgh, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and
Estcourt are. You can use any other map
with towns/cities you will use.
2. Sets of information cards with information
about each town/city. See the last 4
slides.

INSPIRING GREATNESS
Pre-Listening
The Connecting Stage

1. Ask learners if they have been on a school


excursion or family holiday. Ask about it.
2. Tell learners they must choose where the class
will go for the excursion.
3. Use the map to show the 4 possible places to
visit.
4. Tell learners they will be divided into groups of
4, and each person will be given a card with
info on a town/city.

5. Each card has information about what
can be done in that town/city and they
must persuade the group to select that
city/town.
6. Each person must get a chance to
speak before the group selects one
town/city.
7. Divide class into groups of 4 and give
each learner a different card

1. Each learner must tell the group about
his/her town and why they should go
there
2. The group must agree on which town/city
to visit. Allow time for debate

1. Ask the class which groups selected each
of the given towns.
2. Record how many people selected each
town/city/
3. Ask some of the groups to explain why
they chose the city/town. Get feedback
from each city/town.
