Once you have created an object you may want to move it around the screen and position
it in different place. If you try to move or rotate it you may find that it entirely destroys
what you have made. The reason behind this is because your object is currently made up
of different edges, points and sides. When you try to move it you're actually moving these
points rather than the object.

To solve this problem you will need to click the select tool ( black
arrow) drag around the entire object so that it is all highlighted blue.
Then click edit and select make group. This will make the object one
group. You can now move it and rotate it easily. If you need to change
the shape of the object you will need to right click the object and
select edit group.

MAKING A LAP (REBATE) JOINT

The first thing you want to do is use the rectangle tool to create a rectangle that
measures 100x9mm. We are going to make a piece of timber that is 100x100mm
in size and 9mm in thickness.

Use the push pull tool to pull up the shape you have made by 100mm. Remember
to start typing and then press enter. This method will ensure accuracy. You can
also use the dimensions tool to double check.

Use the pencil to draw a line on one edge. Hover to find the blue dot which
represents the midpoint. Draw on the axis from midpoint to midpoint.
MAKING A LAP (REBATE) JOINT

Use the push pull tool to push down one side of the line you have drawn. Push it
down by 9mm (the thickness of the wood) You have now successfully created
your lap (rebate) joint.

The next step is to make sure you highlight the entire object and make it a group.
Click edit and then make group. This object is now protected.

Click the move tool and then click and drag this object you have made away
from the axis. We will now create our second piece.

We want to rotate this piece so it is important that we make it a grouped object

first otherwise we will totally ruin the piece we have created.
MAKING A LAP (REBATE) JOINT

Click the rotate tool and then hover over the different sides of your object. Notice
how the tool changes colour, you need to decide which way you want to rotate
the piece. We want to rotate it on the red axis so move the tool to the edge.

Click once and then move your mouse upwards until you see a blue dotted line appear
– click again. You are choosing the starting point of your rotation. We 90 now want to
rotate 90 degrees from this line. Either type 90 and press enter or drag your mouse.

Once you have rotated the piece, click to secure the object in the position. The
next step is for us to move this piece to the other piece we made.
MAKING A LAP (REBATE) JOINT

Click the move tool and then hover over your object notice how it wants to lock
onto certain points, this is really useful because you can move certain point to
others (imagine magnets) click the corner.

Start to drag this corner to the position that it would sit on the rebate you made.
Notice how it locks in – satisfying right? Use the rotate tool to have a look and
check everything you done is correct.

Well Done! If you have carried out all of the steps correctly you should have a
completed lap joint!
MAKING A MITRE JOINT

The first thing you want to do is use the rectangle tool to create a rectangle that
measures 100x9mm. We are going to make a piece of timber that is 100x100mm
in size and 9mm in thickness.

Use the push pull tool to pull up the shape you have made by 100mm. Remember
to start typing and then press enter. This method will ensure accuracy. You can
also use the dimensions tool to double check.

We are now going to use the rectangle tool to create a guide. Make a square on
the edge that is 9mm,9mm. As you start to become more familiar with the
software you will notice how the axis and locks helps you.
MAKING A MITRE JOINT

Use the pencil tool to draw a line that is 45 degrees from one corner of your
square guide to the other. You will notice the endpoint guides will appear to assist
you.

Use the push pull tool to push one side forward until it reaches the other side.
You will notice it locks on the other side. You have created a mitre joint on one
piece of timber.

Use the rubber to delete tool to delete the lines you no longer want and then
highlight the entire object and make it a group.
MAKING A MITRE JOINT

Copy and paste the object so that you have two. Use the rotate tool to spin on
180 degrees so that it is facing the other.

Use the rotate tool to spin the object on the red axis by 90 degrees. You are now
ready to move the object together to create your mitre joint.

Remember when you move object that you should click at the point you intend to
join to the other object.
MAKING A FINGER JOINT

The first thing you want to do is use the rectangle tool to create a rectangle that
measures 100x9mm. We are going to make a piece of timber that is 100x100mm
in size and 9mm in thickness.

Use the push pull tool to pull up the shape you have made by 100mm. Remember
to start typing and then press enter. This method will ensure accuracy. You can
also use the dimensions tool to double check.

Use the rectangle tool to create a rectangle that measures 20x9mm from the
midpoint.
MAKING A FINGER JOINT

Use make a rectangle on the other

side using the same dimensions

Delete the line in the middle and then use the push pull tool to push down by
9mm. You have now made your female joint. Making the male will be very similar
in steps but you will push down the rectangles at the sides by 9mm instead.

You should be able to use your knowledge now to copy and

paste, group objects and create the rest of the finger joint.
Use the rotate tool to attach the pieces together to create a
90 degree joint.
Hopefully you have now created all
