I can describe the way characters argue in the chapter. I can use simple quotations to illustrate this. I can identify different types of conflict between the characters (eg. personalities, priorities). I can show how the way the characters speak reflects this. I can identify and link reasons why different types of conflict happen. I can analyse how conflict is reflected in the language used by the characters and in the narration. I can analyse how these conflicts shape the narrative and build tension. I can analyse how the theme of conflict is developed in the chapter. I can analyse and evaluate the ways in which the author's use of language, form and structure reflects the theme and shapes reader's reactions. I can relate this to the "bigger picture", ie. the context of the novel and the writer's intentions in writing the novel.
