Mice exposed in-utero were hyperactive and had impaired memory. These behavioral changes were due to altered neuronal developmental programming as exposed mice had dose-responsive impaired glutamatergic synaptic transmission onto layer V pyramidal neurons of the prefrontal cortex. The EEG spectral power was increased in the sleep spindle frequency range in the first 30min of non-rapid eye movement (non-REM) sleep following Active exposure. This increase was more prominent in the participants that showed an increase in the original study. These results confirm previous findings of mobile phone-like emissions affecting the EEG during non-REM sleep. Importantly, this low-level effect was also shown to be sensitive to individual variability. BioElectromagnetics 2012 http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/bem.20691/full A Prospective Study of In-utero Exposure to Magnetic Fields and the Risk of Childhood Obesity - by epidemiologist De-Kun Li, Kaiser Permanente. Participating women carried a meter measuring MF levels during pregnancy and 733 of their children were followed up to 13 years to collect clinically recorded information... There was a dose-response relationship with increasing in-utero MF level being associated with increased risk of obesity/overweight: a 50% increased risk of obesity/overweight for medium in-utero MF level (1.52.5 mG), and a 84% increased risk for high in-utero MF level (>2.5 mG) with a statistically significant trend test... The association existed only for persistent obesity, but not for transitory (unlikely) obesity. I spent many years studying calcium metabolism in living cells and also how cells, tissues and organisms are affected by electrical and electromagnetic fields. In this article, I will try to explain in lay-persons language how weak

electromagnetic fields from cell phones, cordless phones and Wi-Fi can have serious effects on human and animal health. These include damage to glands resulting in obesity and related disorders, chronic fatigue, autism, increases in allergies and multiple chemical sensitivities, early dementia, DNA damage, loss of fertility and cancer. All this happens at levels of radiation that the cell phone companies tell us are safe because the radiation is too weak to cause significant heating. This is the only criterion that they use to assess safety. In fact, the direct electrical effect on our cells, organs and tissues do far more damage to us at energy levels that may be hundreds or thousands of times lower than those that cause significant heating. These are termed non-thermal effects. As yet our governments and health authorities are doing nothing to protect us from them. This need not be so. By understanding the mechanisms of these non-thermal effects, it is possible to put most of them right. http://www.mcs-america.org/july2012.pdf Indian Government decides to cut radiation limits for cell towers - From September 1 this year, India will lower the level to one tenth of the prevailing standard - from 9.2 w/m2 (watt per square metre) to 0.92 w/m2. The decision follows a report of the inter-ministerial committee formed by the ministry of communications and information technology to study the hazards posed by EMF ( electromagnetic field) radiation from base stations and mobile phones. http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2012-0718/news/32730933_1_radiation-exposure-mobile-towers-emf Taiwanese legislators ordered the removal of 1,500 mobile phone masts stating that homes and schools must not be exposed to the risk of radiation. - In relation to the action by the Taiwanese government, Lobamba Lomdzala Member of Parliament, Marwick Khumalo, called for a halt to new towers until further research. "Any government that cares about the welfare of its people would jump at the opportunity availed by the Taiwanese government through their action to discontinue the process," said Khumalo. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), met in Kyiv at Standing Committee level May 27, 2011 calling on European governments to take all reasonable measures to reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields, especially to radio frequencies from mobile phones, and particularly the exposure to children and young people who seem to be most at risk from head tumours. According to parliamentarians, governments should, or children in general, and particularly in schools and classrooms, give preference to wired Internet connections, and strictly regulate the use of mobile phones by schoolchildren on school premises, and put in place information and awareness-raising campaigns on the risks of potentially harmful long-term biological effects on the environment and on human health, especially targeting children and teenagers. http://www.times.co.sz/News/78164.html#.UBiqffHgnSA.facebook The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a formal review of the U.S. radiofrequency radiation exposure guidelines - Current

guidelines were established in 1996 at a time when few people used cell phones and cell towers and other transmitters were few and far between. In May 2011, a 31-member group of experts convened by the World Health Organization classified the microwave radiation emitted by cell phones, WiFi, Smartmeters and cell towers, etc, a Class 2B Carcinogen. Professors Martin Blank Ph.D. and Reba Goodman Ph.D., Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics, Columbia University report "Laboratory research has shown that EMF of many frequencies stimulate many biological systems and at low thresholds of both field strength and duration. It has also shown that EMF stimulate protein synthesis in cells and accelerate electron transfer reactions. In the last few years, important practical insights have been provided by the research on the cellular stress response, where the same specific biological response is induced in cells by both ELF and RF fields, despite the very different energy levels. Since this protective biological response is not determined by the level of energy absorbed, safety standards based on the best available biological evidence must (1) recognize non thermal protective responses and (2) include cumulative exposures across the EM spectrum." This docket was released in 2003 and remains open. The Environmental Working Group, who have taken the lead in warning on cell phone radiation have an easy to use letter to send to the FCC. Please edit the letter to fit your message. http://action.ewg.org/t/1874/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=27776 Australian Brain Surgeon Charlie Teo, MD reports that most of the largest studies on mobile phones are flawed by study design. The Interphone Study refused to include children and corporate users, arguably two of the highest risk groups. We need to design a study that is not flawed from the start and one that acknowledges that non-ionising radiation, if responsible for cancer, will take at least 10 years of exposure to manifest because exposure to ionising radiation has a ten year latency before resulting in cancer... Brain cancer statistics are not pretty. Two of the largest centres in the world have documented a disturbing rise in the incidence of brain tumours, the CBTRUS and the Office of National Statistics in the UK (4) where figures suggest a 50 per cent increase in frontal and temporal lobe tumours between 1999 and 2009... Brain cancer has no cure. It is the leading cause of cancer deaths for those under 39 in Australia and it kills more Australian children and women under 35 than any other cancer... http://www.thepunch.com.au/articles/what-if-your-mobile-phone-is-giving-you-braincancer/
