InlightofviolencerepercussionsandvolatileconflictsbetweenRakhinepeopleand thesocalledRhohingyasinRakhineStateofMyanmar(Burma),weasBurmaBuddhist AssociationofOntariowouldliketoexpressourconcernsbeforemisunderstandingsescalate further. WewouldliketostateclearlythatasBurmeseBuddhistsinCanadawewouldliketo expressourutmostsadnessthatmanyhumanliveshavebeenlostfrombothsidessincethe incidentstartedweeksagoinNorthernRakhineState,Burma.Whileweleaveallthedetailed eventsofuprisingtoexpertsfromUNandIndependentinvestigatorswhicharecurrently undergoing,BurmaBuddhistAssociationofOntarioandallMembersofBurmeseCommunity inTorontodenounceanyviolenceconflictwithlossofhumanlivesregardlessofraceand religiousbackgrounds. Wearefurtherconcernedthat,thisconflicthasbeengrosslyexaggeratedandmisledby theradicalextremisttodestroythepeacefulreligionofBurma.Therearemanyscrupulousand fabricatedpictures,videosandarticlesoninternet1andnewsmagazinescreatedand/or supportedbyradicalextremiststakingadvantageoftheseincidentstogainInternational immunity,fundsandaids.OneofthearticleswrittenbyjournalistGwynneDyer(BadDaysin Burma,Embassy,Aug1,2012)notonlymakesthematterworsebutalsopaintedBurmese peopleandBuddhistmonksassuppressorsofminoritygroup,withoutproperinquiry,evidence andcompleteresearch.Thistypeofjournalismshouldbediscouragedasitdamagedthe reputationofBurmaasawholewhichhasmoreethnicgroupsthanmanyotherneighboring countriesandhavebeenlivingpeacefullyregardlessofraceorreligiousbackgroundfor decades.WeareconcernthatInternationalCommunityallovertheworldtakeitasrealon whattheyseeandhearoninternet,foreignnewsmediaetc.GwynneDyershouldapologizeto BuddhistmonksinRakhinestateandBurmesepeopleingeneral.Webelievethetruthwill prevailafteralltheindependentinvestigationsarecompleted. WebelievethatthecurrentconflictintheRakhine(Arakan)stateofBurmaisnota religiousconflictbetweenBuddhistsandMuslimsbutitsacommunalconflictbetweenthe

economicmigrants(fromBangladesh)andthepeopleofRakhinestatewholivetherefor severalthousandyears.Wewanttostatethatthisisanisolatedincidenttakenplacein northernpartofwesternBurmaandtheremainingpartsofBurmaarenotaffected. WewouldliketoclarifythatBurmesepeoplelivepeacefullywithallracesandreligious groupsandhasbeenknowntobeamulticulturalcountry.Weareproudtosaywehaveas manychurches,mosques,hindutemplesandofcoursepagodasineverymajorcitiesandeven smalltownsandvillagesthanmanyothercountriesandpeoplestrifetolivepeacefullyfor decades.OneofthelargestMosques,aChurchandSulePagoda(secondmostfamousBuddhist PagodainRangoon/Yangon),allthreemostprominentreligiouslandmarksstandsidebyside inthecitycentreofYangon,Rangoon(formercapitalofBurma). AsMahadhammikaBuddhistTempleofTorontoandonbehalfofBurmaBuddhist AssociationofOntarioweagainwouldliketostressthatwedenounceanyviolenceconflict withlossofhumanlivesregardlessofraceandreligiousbackgrounds.Wehopeandpraythat thisconflictwillendpeacefully.
