Unit 2- All About Me Ally-Bally Song: Good for teaching simple classroom actions! (See me for the tune ) Lyrics: Ally bally ally bally bee, Stand up, sit down up hehehe, Open and close, open and close, Stand up, sit down hehehe Pg. 5- Write out the alphabet on the board letter by letter, prompting the students to tell you the next letter. (Or have 2-3 lines and do a line race to write the alphabet, each student writing one letter each until finished.) Sing the alphabet song then ask students to open their books. Have the students identify the letters in red. Invite students to the board to circle those letters. Introduce the letter sounds. (Hint: Try introducing an alphabet phonics song such as- http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=saF3-f0XWAY ) Pg.6- Use a stuffed animal to introduce the idea of I am. Ex. Hello, I am Mr. Parrot. its nice to meet you. (It would be great to use an animal that starts with the target phonemes.) You can use it to ask questions such as Who are you? and prompt the students to answer. After Ball Roll, have students stand in the circle and walk slowly around a student in the middle chanting Chant: Adam wants a new friend, a new friend, a new friend, Adam wants a new friend a new friend, its Sam. (Teacher or Adam says another students). That student says I am Sam and joins Adam in the circle, now chant using Sams name. When the next student is called Adam leaves the center to join the circle and the new student joins Sam in the circle. Pg.7- Review phoneme sounds. Show students how to make the sounds by demonstrating mouth shape. Also show and practice the associated actions. Play the Jumping Frog game as a whole or small group. You can also make multiples of the sound cards and play a hopscotch version. For the enrichment, first try brainstorming a few words the students may know with those beginning sounds, or you can show some pictures. (Hint: Suggested actions and sounds can be found in the Year 1 Teachers Guide) Pg.8- Review phoneme sounds, songs and games learned during the unit before or after the Alphabet Rolls. (Hint: You can also use shaving cream to practice writing the letters in!)

Unit 3- Lets Be Friends Song: The Ants Go Marching Pg. 9- Make the characters (draw, finger puppets etc.) and show the students the actions as you read the story. Have students come and label the pictures with the character names. Have students touch the letters S & A that they see on the board. Practice the letter sounds. Pg. 10- Show the students morning afternoon and night by using pictures. (Hint: You can use the pictures from AB 11). Ex. Show a morning picture, ask: Good ___?___! Have students practice saying good morning etc. by changing the picture cards on the board. When they see a new picture they must greet each other with the phrase. Pg. 11- Divide the students into 4 groups where they are sitting. Have each group be one of the s,a,t,p sounds. When you hold up the sound card have students say that sound and do the associated action, swap sounds so each group gets more practice (see Yr. 1 Teachers Guide for recommended actions). For the enrichment have the student whose name is called do the tap action when called upon. Pg. 12- Pre-draw the masks. (Hint: I would use Andy Ant and Sammy Snail that way it is easier to act out the skit.) Put on an Andy Ant mask; invite a Sammy Snail to the front to help demonstrate actions for the story. Have the whole class practice doing the actions together before inviting pairs to role-play. Invite some students to be the narrators.
