BLOCFEST 2012/2013

THE MILE END CLIMBING WALL, THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTRE, READING CLIMBING CENTRE, THE CLIMBING ACADEMY BRISTOL & THE ARCH CLIMBING WALL

TEMPORARY REGISTRATION FORM FOR UNDER 18s

The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.
Restrictions of Temporary Registration: This form is designed to allow under 18s to participate in BLOCFEST 2012/2013 only. Climbers are not allowed to climb outside the remit of this event. Climbers wishing to climb at the host venue outside of the event boulder problems/designated warm up areas must check in at Reception as per each venues normal procedures. There may be an additional fee charged. Blocfest Conditions of Use and Rules for Bouldering at the host venues In addition to the Blocfest conditions of use and rules each host venue will have their own specific conditions of use and rules that you are expected to read and abide by.

Although the climbing centre is an artificial environment the risks involved are no less serious than when climbing outside on a crag or mountain. There is an additional risk that bolt-on holds can spin or break. The soft flooring under the bouldering walls is designed to provide a more comfortable landing for climbers falling or jumping from the bouldering wall. THE SOFT FLOORING DOES NOT MAKE THE CLIMBING ANY SAFER. Broken and sprained limbs are common on this type of climbing wall despite the soft landing. Uncontrolled falls are likely to result in injuries to yourself or others. Climbing beyond your capabilities is likely to result in a fall. Any fall may result in an injury despite the safety systems in place to prevent it. You must make your own assessment of the risks whenever you climb. Duty of Care - The rules of the climbing centre are not negotiable and if you are not prepared to abide by them then the staff must politely ask you to leave. You also have a duty of care to act responsibly towards the other users of the centre. Loss of Personal Property None of the climbing centre named above accept responsibility for any loss of or damage to customers personal property. Lockers may be provided for customers convenience but they are not secure. No valuables should be left unattended. General Safety Under 16s must be actively supervised by a parent/ guardian for the duration of the event who has completed their own over 18s temporary registration form (even if not climbing themselves). You must exercise care, common sense and self preservation at all times. Be aware of the other climbers around you and how your actions will affect them. Stand well back from the climbing walls unless you are spotting a climber. Never climb directly above or below another climber. When bouldering, we strongly recommend descending by down climbing, jumping or at least a controlled fall. Keep the mats free of objects and obstructions (bags, clothing, bottles, etc.)
