TownofOceanCityemployeesworkingtorestorecity,assessdamage OceanCityhasalreadybeguntoassessthedamagethroughouttowntodeterminethe effectsofHurricaneSandyinthearea.Expectedfloodinginthedowntownarearesultedin theclosureoftheRoute50bridge,whichhasremainedclosedsinceSaturday,October28. Duetohighwind,theRoute90bridgewasclosedtemporarilylastnight,however;isopen atthistime.Residents,businessesownersandvisitorscanenterOceanCitythroughRoute 90,althoughaccesssouthof62ndStreetremainsclosed. TheUnitedStatesCoastGuardhasrestrictedallaccesstothebay,withtheexceptionof emergencyandrescueboats.Currently,TownofOceanCityemployeesareworkingwith theMarylandStateHighwayAssociationtoassessdamagetothedowntownareaand determinewhenitissafetoreopenthearea.AccordingtoDelmarvaPower,thetwo circuitsthatwerepreemptivelydeenergizedyesterdayinthedowntownareahavebeen restored. InitialreportsofdamageindicateseverelossoftheOceanCityFishingPierandan impairedlightpolewhichfell,temporarilyblockingtheentrancetothePublicWork Department.Sinceyesterday,October30,OceanCityemergencypersonnelrespondedto 231callsforserviceandrelocatedapproximately49citizensduringthestorm. TownofOceanCityemployeesareworkingdiligentlywithpartneringagenciestocomplete themandateddamageassessmenttoallowresidentsandbusinessesintothedowntown areaassoonaspossible.Currently,thereisnoneedforvolunteerservices,however;ifyou wishtocallwithquestions,inquiriesorconcernsyoumaycontacttheCommunications Officeat410.289.8967.
