Live Wright has established a school garden committee that will be working to help schools start a school garden program. The objective of this committee is to ensure that at least one school within all our local school districts has a school garden by the fall of 2013. A survey was created that could be sent to all local principals to help us gather baseline data on school gardens. This was sent out at the beginning of October and below is more of the background on the project.
Survey Objectives:
Assess current school garden situation in all Wright County schools Gauge administrator interest or future plans of establishing a school garden Gain knowledge of how garden is incorporated within school setting Determine needs and engagement level of Wright County school garden programs (grants, starter tool kits)
Responses:
Sent to 41 Principals 22 principals responded (54%) Districts Responding: o Buffalo/Hanover/Montrose, Monticello, STMA, Delano, Elk River, Maple Lake, Rockford, Annandale, HLWW o District not represented: Dassel Cokato
Key Findings:
27% (6 of 22) currently have a school garden o HLWW High School, Monticello Middle School, Monticello High School, Pinewood Elementary, Rockford Middle School, Wright Learning Center o 3 school districts represented.
