SCHOOL SPIRIT - PAJAMA DAY

FLU FACTS The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza virus that can infect the nose, throat, and lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness. Signs and symptoms: Fever (not every one with the flu has fever) Cough Sore Throat Runny or stuffy nose Muscle or body aches Headaches Fatigue Some people have vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults). How Flu Spreads: Most experts believe that mainly droplets made when people with the flu cough, sneeze or talk spread the flu. Less often a person might also get flu by touching a surface or object that has Flu virus on it then touching their own mouth eyes or possibly nose. Period of Contagiousness: 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 5 to 7 days after becoming sick. Complications of Flu: Bacterial pneumonia, ear infections, sinus infections, dehydration, and worsening of chronic medical conditions. Prevention of seasonal flu: Get vaccinated Cover mouth when coughing (cough in elbow) Wash hands frequently If you are sick stay home to prevent spreading the flu For more information go to http:// www.cdc.gov/flu/ keyfacts.htm

Garden Gates Student Council is sponsoring Pajama Day tomorrow, December 16th. Students can come to school in pajama attire such as long sleeve pajama tops and bottoms or sweats. They may also bring slippers to wear in the classroom if approved by their teacher, but they must also bring their shoes. We are looking for a comfortable and cozy day!

PHONE NUMBER?

Do Your Children Know Their Home Phone Numbers?... Almost every afternoon, students come into the office to call home, but cant do it without our help because they dont know a phone number to contact a parent or care giver. Knowing a phone number to contact a family member is a life skill that all our students should have. It will make them feel more independent, and you will feel more confident that they can reach you in an emergency. For those too young to remember multiple numbers, we suggest that you write down important phone numbers and have your child keep them in his/her backpack for easy access.

COLD WEATHER REMINDER

Now that the weather is getting colder, please send your child to school with a jacket, sweatshirt, or extra layer of clothing. Whether at physical education, recess, or lunch, students have outdoor activities unless it is unusually cold, windy, or rainy. Please remember to label all jackets, umbrellas, hats etc. This will enable items to be returned in case of loss.

REMINDERS:

For the protection of students, please remember that students are not to be on the campus before 7:45 a.m. There is no adult supervision until 7:45 a.m. Please do not congregate outside of the classrooms while school is still in session. This is very disruptive to both the teacher and the students and could be a distraction from valuable learning time. Every Tuesday is early dismissal day. Please remember that all a.m. Kindergarten students are dismissed at 11:10 a.m. and all p.m. Kindergarten students along with students in grades 1-5 are dismissed at 1:30. Please remember to pick up your children promptly.
