Overview
Microsoft® Office Specialist (MOS) certification, the premier Microsoft desktop certification, is a
globally recognized standard for validating expertise with the Microsoft Office suite of business
productivity programs. The MOS program is helping to meet the demand for qualified and
knowledgeable people in the workplace.

Prerequisites/Requirements
To earn the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification for Microsoft Office or Microsoft
Project, you must pass one or more certification exams.

MOS Certification
The MOS program offers certification for a number of Microsoft Office suites:
• Office XP
• Office 2000

The MOS program also offers a certification for Microsoft Project 2000:
• Microsoft Project 2000

MOS VAC Program

Microsoft established the Office Specialist Vendor of Approved Courseware (MOS VAC) Program
to encourage independent developers of courseware and educational tools to support Microsoft
Office products by creating quality courseware that assists learners in preparing for Microsoft
Office Specialist certification exams (MOS exams).

SkillSoft is a member of the MOS VAC program. SkillSoft’s Office 2000 and Office XP
courseware has been approved by this program. Key benefits of the MOS ICV program include:

• Authorization to use the logo when courseware materials are approved

• Microsoft product information and development schedules for MOS exams
• Access to MOS Exam Objectives
• Approved Courseware may be listed by Microsoft on the

Mentoring is supported for exams that make up the MOS credentials with the exception of
Project 2002 Comprehensive, which is planned for 2003.
