Student Veterans Organization Meeting


The purpose of SVO is to foster support for all veterans of the Armed Forces, members of the Reserves, National Guard and their spouses. Membership in the Student Veterans Organization is open to any degreeseeking student who is a veteran of the armed forces, a member of the reserves, National Guard, or the family member of any military service member. If this sounds like something for you, the next full body meeting is February 13th at 5:00pm in room 1033 in the FSC. There will be FREE PIZZA!!! Wilmington Multi-Specialty Out-Patient Clinic


The new facility is being constructed to provide exceptional healthcare to Veterans in the Wilmington and Brunswick communities and throughout coastal Carolina. The estimated opening date is early 2013. The services that will be offered are as follows: Primary Care, Womens Health, Mental Health Day Surgery: Eye, Skin, Gastrointestinal, other minor surgeries Imaging Services: Radiology, Ultrasound, CT scan, Bone Density, MRI and Mammography Medical Specialties Include: Cardiology, Dermatology, Gastrointestinal, Pulmonary, Neurology Surgical Specialties may include: Gynecological, Urological, Orthopedic and General Surgery

Important Dates for Financial Aid and GI Bill


If you have not turned in your updated Spring class schedule, you need to do so as soon as possible to continue receiving benefits. If you are going to be applying for financial aid for the 2013/2014 school year you should start completing your FAFSA and have it done by the end of February at the latest. This can be done for free online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you would like to keep up with the dates of which things are due easily, like the UNCW Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid page on Facebook. The UNCW scholarship application is available online until the first of April. If they have not yet completed an application they should do so online at http://uncw.edu/finaid/namedscholar.htm.

Loved Ones of the Armed Forces (LOAF)


A soon to be organization, L..O.A.F. (Loved Ones of the Armed Forces), is an opportunity for anyone who has any connections to the military, to connect with others in the same circumstances. If you have any friends, family, or significant others in the military, this organization is for you. Did you lose Nemo???


The Perch is putting on a family movie Matinee on Sunday, Feb. 17th. Bring your kids, nieces, and nephews because there will be themed snacks, activities, and giveaways! There will be plenty for them to do! The movie will be showing in Lumina Theater in the Fisher Student Center and admission is FREE for everyone! The activities start at 2:00pm and the movie will begin at 2:30pm.

Non-Traditional Student? Looking for Off-Campus Housing? Want your voice to be heard? Come to the Housing fair!
Come to a Non-Trad focus group on Monday, Feb. 18th at 4:00pm, or Thursday Feb. 21st at 1:00pm in the Bald Head Island Room 1023 of the Fisher Student Center. All non-trads are welcome. Come share your thoughts and ideas with the university about your needs. The Spring Housing Fair sponsored by the PERCH, is coming back to Warwick on Wednesday Feb. 27th from 11am2pm. There will be numerous off campus Representatives available for you to speak with. There will also be free pizza and giveaways! So come learn about your off-campus living options and services!

Student Veterans Lounge


The Perch is looking to update the pictures of UNCWs military students in the Veterans Lounge located on the first floor of the Fisher Student Center. If you would like to help us out, send a picture of your military experience in an email to seahawkperch@uncw.edu, along with your name, branch of service, your class year, your major, and details of the picture. Please do not send pictures of weapons being pointed at the camera or pictures with alcohol in them. The deadline for submissions will be Friday, March 1st.

Time Magazines Joe Klein


Joe Klein, longtime journalist and political columnist for Time magazine, member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a former Guggehheim Fellow, opens a discussion surrounding veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. What can we learn about our country, our time, and about our leadership? The discussion will be Monday, Feb. 18th at 7:00pm in the Burney Center. Tickets are available at Sharkys Box Office and Game Room and are FREE for UNCW students, faculty, and staff; $10 for the general public.
