Pocket Change Winter Issue
Hi Everyone,It’s hard to believe 2012 is now history. It was a productive andbusy year or DFLI.I fnally met many o you whose names I have been reading on ourMoney School and Purses lists or years. I saw old riends and metnew ones at the spectacular FAB Purses to Portolios Conerencesupported by Citi Foundation. Tis years was truly a Purses eventthat was:
or Women -presented to over a thousand women and the men in their lives
bout Women – topics ocused on women’s unique fnancial needs
y Women– all emale keynotes and dozens o women’s agency exhibitorsSo many o you joined me in calling the 2012 Purses Conerence the best ever.Tere were very positive comments about our 6 nationally-recognized speakers:Mary Caraccioli, the Money Confdante and our very own money coachCandace and Ginita, who created wie.org and Money ClubsLynette Khalani-Cox, who shared her ormula to Zero DebtJean Setzand, who spoke on the topic Planning or Retirement at ANY Age!Olivia Mellan, who shared strategies or dealing with money and relationshipsto achieve Money Harmony A number o you said, “I wish I could have attended all 4 sessions.” We tried a new ormat, giving participants the opportunity to participate in 2 o 4 very special, extended sessions that we are unable to oer in the regular Money School schedule. From your comments, we know you would like to hear these speakers again.Te most common concern: Why isn’t this conerence an annual event? With DFLI’s small sta and its huge dependence on volunteers and unders to keep theevent ree, a conerence in the even years works best. But stay tuned or lots o new topicsand events in 2013…Te Money ClubHouse, new this year, was a popular lunch spot. Many o you stopped by to learn more about the clubs and took the opportunity to talk personally with Candanceand Ginita. We had the opportunity to honor Meta McGhee and Paulette Sullivan Long. Meta andPaulette were the frst to reach the prestigious 500 hour Platinum Portolio, which includedsignifcant volunteer eorts to DFLI and Te Money School. Sadly, Paulette passed away beore the Conerence, but she knew she had reached her goal. In her memory and herhonor, this level was renamed Paulette’s Portolio and was awarded to Meta and Paulette.(Money School instructor Alisha Adams accepted the award in Paulette’s honor.) Meta was the recipient o the Sandra A. Varano Golden Purse Award, (named in memory o another devoted Money School student.)In closing, I send thanks to all o you. You make my work at DFLI meaningul, rewarding, and un. You all contribute to making Te Money School a community o learners in a statewide school without walls. Warm winter wishes or a happy, healthy, prosperous year…
