"The Art of Seeing Making a Painting Work"

Workshop Description
A good painting is a very personal statement by the artist and tells as much about the artist as the painting itself. We will talk about the whole process of putting a painting together, from the first concept, to small idea, value or color studies to a more finished product. The emphasis will not be so much on a finished painting as the process of achieving it. Most paintings are ruined at the start because of little thought and idea of what to paint and how one will do it. We will work on color harmony and the balance of shapes and edges in size, value and color. We will work on seeing things in a more "abstract" way instead of more literally. In other words, to not see things as sky, water, trees, and ground, but as an interesting and compelling arrangement of shapes and colors. This opens up to seeing more options of what to paint, seeing more as an artist and being able to find your own "voice". Bring a good sense of humor and we will have a grand time, making mistakes, working hard, and enjoying the whole experience. Artists may work from their own photos and I will have a large selection and variety of great things to paint from, including landscapes, figures and portraits. Students can work outside or inside in the studio as the weather allows and the student desires.

The workshop will be held at the Hansen Studio in the countryside near Oregon City. Outside the studio you will nd ve acres of woods, gardens, and a little red barn. The address is 17525 S. Ferguson Rd. Oregon City, OR.
