The Karnal police solved the sensational case of loot of Rs 9.20 lakh from a car parked outside a restaurant on the GT Road here on February 27 evening within 24 hours and arrested all four accused. The police also recovered Rs 9 lakh while Rs 20,000 had been spent by the accused. Delhi-based businessmen Navin and his brother, Saurabh, halted at a restaurant on the GT Road. After a few minutes, their driver Prakash informed them on the phone that four armed persons had looted

Rs 9.20 lakh. A police team led by DSP Surinder Bhoria reached the spot and scanned the CCTV footage but no armed person was seen in the footage, raising doubts about the driver's version . On interrogation, the driver confessed that he had hatched a conspiracy with his cousin Sanjay and friends Bhupendra and Tejbir and took away the cash. Prakash was aware that his employer would get some hefty payments in Sangrur and kept his accomplices informed on the mobile phone. All three accomplices were following the car

from Punjab on a hired vehicle. As soon as the car stopped at the restaurant, Prakash allegedly handed over the bag containing Rs 9.20 lakh to them. The police arrested Sanjay Kumar, Bhupendra and Tejbir from Harola in Noida (UP) last evening and recoverd the cash. .The police had initially registered a case under Sections 406 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code but later replaced Section 406 by Sections 381 and 411. The SP appealed to all the hotels and restaurants to install CCTV cameras so that such incidents of theft could be avoided.
