com Education: Phillips Exeter Academy '01 University of St Andrews, MA History of Art '05 Employment: Pasternak Antiques & 20th Century Design, co-owner, 2005-present 'Natural Born Dealers' / 'Born Dealers', Discovery Channel (Canada) / Planet Green (US) / ITV (world distribution), 2010-2011 I am: ambitious, creative, intelligent, confident, personable, relatable, realistic, enthusiastic, witty, driven, honest, humble, hard-working, unique, kind and caring, a problem solver and an entrepeneur. Background, Antiques & TV: The value that i bring to the project, in terms of my knowledge of the antiques business as well as the world of TV is immeasurable. Buying, selling and trading antique and unique items is in my blood. For over 40 yrs my father, Jerry Pasternak has been dealing in architectural and nautical antiques, americana, automobilia and all things fun, funky, unique and interesting. From an early age I was being pulled around antique shows in a radio flyer wagon, and as I got a bit older was encouraged to collect and trade the items that I was passionate about, from vintage action figures to sought after collector sneakers and sports memorabilia. It was a one-of-akind upbringing that I wouldn't trade for anything. Although I always knew antiques and collectibles would be a big part of my life, my parents wanted more for me and stressed the value of education. They sent me to the top private high school in the nation, Phillips Exeter Academy (with notable classmate Mark Zuckerburg) and then to the University of St Andrews in Scotland (along with Kate Middleton and Prince William), where I received a MA in History of Art. It was during my time at St Andrews that I became interested in 20th century design, especially unique furniture from the mid century. I also became increasingly interested in filmmaking and the world of television and movies. Upon graduation, I knew that I didn't want to work for a gallery or auction house like many of my classmates would go on to do; rather I hoped that I could find a path that would allow me the opportunity to pursue both my interest in antiques as well as the world of filmmaking. With the antique knowledge and business sense that my father had bestowed upon me along with my newfound interest in 20th century design, I jumped head first into the world of buying and selling modernism. At the same time, I began self-producing a number of series for the local cable access TV station where I was living in Maine. When I started, I wasn't certain how to bridge the gap between my two passions, but that quickly changed the more time I spent buying, selling, visiting antique shows and flea markets and most importantly talking with those in the business. The stories I heard were amazing. They were real, they were raw, oftentimes funny, almost always honest (although often embellished) and they were fascinating as heck. I immediately thought, if I could put together a pitch for a reality TV series following the everyday

wheeling and dealings that go on in the antique business, viewers would be amazed. This was 2006 when the only mainstream series on television that touched on the subject of antiques and collecting was Antiques Roadshow. I put together a proposal and sent out emails to over 100 well-known reality / documentary production companies and naively expected to hear back from many. I did not hear back from a single one. After this experience, I didn't give up, rather I went back to the drawing board and did a good bit of homework, learning as much about the inner workings of the tv business as possible. I also continued to grow the antique business and by early 2010 Pasternak Antiques had become the premier destination for 20th century design and unique items in all of northern New England. It was during this time that the antique tv landscape changed drastically as 'Pawn Stars' and 'American Pickers' premiered and overnight there became an amazing demand from networks for the type of series I had pitched and not got a single response to four yrs earlier. I knew that I could no longer be the first to introduce this new type of storytelling, but I also knew that it was more important to try and simply be the best. So, I contacted many of those same production companies that I had four yrs earlier as well as as few new ones, and within hours received a call from the producers of American Pickers, Cineflix. Finally, we had got our foot in the door, and a year later, after much trial and tribulation we began production on 'Natural Born Dealers' / 'Born Dealers' for Discovery Canada / Planet Green (US). The series, produced by Proper and consisting of 6x 60min episodes, turned out amazingly well. I played as active a role behind the camera as I did in front and believe that this extra effort lead to the overwhelming numbers of viewers, both in the US and Canada, that expressed their appreciation for the reality and honesty of what we were doing. It was as fun to make as it was to watch and if not for a stroke of really bad luck (Planet Green went through a rebranding process soon after our first season wrapped and the network no longer exists), I'm confident we'd be filming our third or fourth season by now. That being said, it was a great learning experience and has lead me now to a project for which Im even more passionate about and for which I think can once again change the entire antique / tv landscape. 'The Antique Show' is my dream project and Im confident that Im more qualified than any to help bring the concept to fruition. I know the business of antiques, I know the business of television and I think most importantly, I know what viewers interested in this genre most want to see next. The Antique Show is real, it's raw, it's honest and at the same time it's light, fun and I think a pretty refreshing take on the genre. It's the type of project that I hope Im able to devote the next several years of my life to. The Business: Pasternak Antiques & 20th Century Design is a two man operation. Our seasonal retail location is in seacoast NH and we also have a 20K sq ft warehouse in midcoast Maine as well in SW Florida. My father and I deal in very different items, we each have our own approach to buying /selling and our business model of buying throughout the winter in FL and selling these items up North is quite unique.
