NEW WOMAN/ALL WOMEN ABORTION BUSINESS 21 January 2012

The report begins with first-hand witness reports of the events on the morning of Saturday, 21 January 2012. The witness comments and photographs in this report were taken outside New Woman/All Women abortion business in Birmingham, Alabama on 21 January 2012. The witnesses were not inside to know what took place prior to the events outside. We believe that there was a breach in protocol and that the illnesses of these women are related to the abortion procedures they procured. In an effort to protect other women in the future from experiencing similar adverse effects, we formally request the Alabama Department of Public Health to investigate the events that took place on the morning of Saturday, 21 January 2012, at New Woman/All Women abortion business in Birmingham, AL.

The witness comments and photographs in this report were taken outside New Woman/All Women abortion business in Birmingham, Alabama on 21 January 2012. We were not inside to know what took place prior to the events outside. We believe that there was a breach in protocol and that the illnesses of these women are related to the abortion procedures they procured. In an effort to protect other women in the future from experiencing similar adverse effects, we formally request the Alabama Department of Public Health to investigate the events that took place on the morning of Saturday, 21 January 2012, at New Woman/All Women abortion business in Birmingham, AL. On the morning of Saturday, 21 January 2012, at New Woman/All Women abortion business in Birmingham, Alabama, witnesses were privy to very disturbing situations outside the abortion site. Following are several first-hand reports: [MV] Today (21Jan12) is 3rd Saturday so we had about 25 people praying in front of New Women. About 9:25 am, a fire truck pulled up and the paramedic rushed to the back door. After just a moment talking to a woman at the door, he walked back to the truck and left. Shortly after 10:00 our prayer vigil was over and most people left. A few of us stayed and talked and were leaving about 10:15 am when the fire truck returned. The paramedics immediately rushed to the back door. Two ambulances arrived. First, they hand-carried a young blond girl down the back steps and placed her on a stretcher unconscious! She left in the first ambulance. Then, they brought a very young looking black girl out on a stretcher and placed her in the 2nd ambulance.

A young black male NW employee then came and moved the abortionists car to the lower parking lot. The abortionist came out, head & upper body totally covered with an orange poncho, and got in the passenger side of his car. The NW employee then drove him away while the male escort tried to stop me from taking pictures.

[GM] Here is how the day unfolded for me: When I arrived at New Women, a storm was developing fast so I stayed in my car until the lightening and downpour let up a little. Due to it being so dark, I could see into New Women for the first time. Normally the tinted windows prevent that. It was eerie watching the girls going in, and the nurse running back and forth with them.

And we noticed that the nurse always left her surgical gloves on even in the reception area and doing things behind the desk. We tried to take a picture to document that, but MA [another witness] told us it would probably not do any good as she has made calls about that at PP and was told nothing could be done.

The abortions started early, around 6:30 am before we got there, so we were now seeing the girls coming out after their abortions. I was struck by how sick and stressed they looked- and I commented to [R & J, other witnesses] 'that the girls looked worse than usual'.

Especially three girls seemed in trouble. Two were white as sheets and wobbly. The other one looked to be struggling. We told them to please go seek real medical attention.

And then the fire engine showed up with no sirens on, and they were told by New Women personnel that the emergency had been cancelled.

 Then about 45 minutes later when our prayer vigil was over, most of the folks had left; but as a few of us were in our cars leaving, the fire engine returned with two ambulances with all of their sirens blaring! We went to see what was happening, and then realized we needed to take pictures to document the injured young girls being taken away in ambulances, so New Women couldn't hide what they had done to them.

And it was so obvious to all of us there that medical treatment had been withheld from these girls until our prayer group had left. New Women Abortion business didn't want the truth to be exposed that could hurt them.

There were around 8 paramedics attending to the girls. They didn't have gurney assist at New Women, so the first young blond girl was carried out like a rag doll and appeared unconscious. The first ambulance took her to UAB with sirens blaring the whole way as I followed. When I returned to New Women, I learned that a second girl had been taken out in a wheel chair and then taken away by a second ambulance with the sirens on as well. The abortionist had just made his great escape and sped off to places unknown with his money, while the girls now lay at UAB injured or worse. So, praying for these two young girls and all the others that appeared to be in trouble as well.

[from a nurse who saw the photos: I just hope the woman lived. When it's to that stage it is very hard to recover them back. She was probably in DIC. It's where they bleed to death, the body's clotting mechanisms have all bled out. If they don't get immediate infusions of massive plasma they die. I have seen this in the OR several times.]

[JN] The [Fire & Rescue] driver who came at 9:25 am told R [one of the witnesses] so I could hear also that the clinic had canceled their call. Another part of the story was the terrible storm that broke out when we began praying. Heavy rain, wind, and lighting striking around made the escorts go inside. We stayed, prayed, and sidewalk counseled. When someones umbrella blew inside out, he asked if we should take cover. We decided to stay. What a battle!
END OF WITNESS COMMENTS

We are fairly certain that the abortionist is Bruce E. Norman. Norman was doing abortions in Jackson, MS at the Jackson Womens Health Organization abortion business on Friday, 20Jan12; according to witnesses there, he left Friday night around 6 pm in a car that appears to be the same car in which he arrived today, 21 Jan12, at New Woman/All Women abortion business. [It is possible that he flew from Jackson to Birmingham, but both of the flights that left Jackson about 6:30 pm had lay-overs in Atlanta and would have taken about 3.5 hours to get to Birmingham, the same amount of time it would have taken him to drive to Birmingham.] Norman was seen entering New Woman/All Women abortion business by other witnesses early on the morning of 21 January 2012. It appears that the white woman removed from NWAW first was unconscious. It is troubling why she was removed in this state by hand and not on a stretcher. It appears that she might have had an IV in her foot (photo 3323).

There is NO wheelchair/gurney access to this New Woman/All Women abortion business. According to present regulations for abortion facilities [420-5-1-.04, Physical Environment] corridors and doors must be wide enough for stretchers, and all facilities shall comply with ANSI 117.1 making buildings and facilities accessible to, and usable by, the physically handicapped Certainly, this should include wheelchair /gurney access!

One volunteer followed first ambulance to UAB. Since both ambulances came together, both ambulances probably went to UAB. Another witness commented on 25 Jan 12 that he asked the ambulance driver, who told him they were taking the second woman to UAB.
