Brief 3 DFGA Yearbook

DFGA
1/3 A collaborative brief with Joe, Charlotte and Luke on the creation of the Digital Film, Games and Animation Yearbook for the graduating year. This was a full pdf yearbook and is to be used as both a keepsake for students and a showcase. Our concept is based around process, giving as much importance to the development and production of a piece as the final resolution. Bringing to the forefront, the sheer amount of work that goes into the creation of each piece.

Photography & covers

With our concept of bringing process to the forefront, and showing the amount of work that goes on in the creation of the final piece, we wanted to create distictive covers and section pages that would represent this.

We chose to build a set up using paper craft which would then be photographed. We would then be able to showcase both the final image and the process through which we created it.

I have a great interest in computer generated imagery as a way to channel my art. The main influences which have driven me towards visual effects have come from my passion for special effects in film and my love for music video. Over the past 3 years I have developed a general skill set which includes Concept design, 3D modelling and animation. My current study has given me the opportunity to broaden my understanding of editing, compositing and motion tracking to allow me to combine 3D and film together. I am particularly interested in the integration between computer graphics and live action footage. In the future I see my self as a 3D generalist as I feel my skills and interests fit under a wide umbrella of concept art, 3D development to realisation. I enjoy bringing elements of fantasy and science fiction into the real world to inspire emotion through a visual moving image. I hope to one day contribute towards VFX in either film, television, games or advertising.

Layout

The pdf works around an index page, which links to each students page when clicked, and also links out to other professional contact points such as websites. Students have been categorised into digital film (orange) Animation (yellow) and Games (blue) to aid navigation.

Each student has been assigned 3 spreads. Their intro page with position statement and contact information is linked directly from the index page at the beginning. We wanted a simple and easily accessible layout.
