Title: Fiji Rugby Centenary Conference

Conference Dates: 1-2 July 2013 Location: University of the South Pacific, Suva, Fiji The University of the South Pacific through its Faculty of Arts, Law and Education is pleased to announce a multi-disciplinary conference marking the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Fiji Rugby Union (1913-2013). The conference offers an opportunity to share and critique a rapidly expanding body of academic research on Fiji Rugby. The event will include scholarly papers, panels and presentations from current and former coaches, players and administrators. The conference is designed to promote scholarship and facilitate discussion of common interests between researchers, sports practitioners, journalists, students and Fiji rugby supporters. As this is the first rugby conference of its kind in the region, it is hoped the event will provide momentum for future conferences on sport in Oceania. Proposals are invited for paper presentations (20 minutes) for incorporation into panels. Topics focused on rugby in Fiji may include consideration of the following themes: social mobility and player migration; history of rugby in Fiji and the Region; womens rugby (Fijiana) and Indo-Fijian rugby; Fiji rugby and cultures, gender, identities, politics and economics; Fiji rugby links to Oceania; life after rugby; health and high performance; Fiji rugby and the media; etc.

Proposals should include titles and abstracts of not more than 300 words, a one page CV and contact information. Please e-mail proposals, questions and expressions of interest to: kanemasu_y@usp.ac.fj. -"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe" (Anatole France)
