Post-Game Quotes
PIRATES MANAGER CLINT HURDLE: On Mercers base hit in the 9th off Medina: Yeah, Ive been on the other end of that stick. Sometimes, you get the match-ups you want, and you dont get the results you want. Our right-hander got through two left-handers after we put a guy on, and they got a right-hander coming in whos been pretty effective for them and wasnt able to put away Mercer. Good for us. Did Gomez start go accordingly to plan? Absolutely, for a guy that had been away and had been out a couple times on rehab, [he] wasnt as sharp as when he left, [but] he was still effective with his fastball and changeup for about the first two or three innings, and then he went more sinker, slider. [He] gave us the innings we needed. He got to the part of the game we were hoping to get to with the lead. He was effective again, real nice job.
