How to Play Basic Summary

The main goal of the game is based off of the Pokmon series in which a person must become the ultimate Pokmon trainer. To achieve this goal one must first collect the eight gym badges. In order to get a badge each gym has a gym leader you must beat, and it gets progressively harder throughout the whole game. Then once all eight badges are collected, you can fight the Elite Four. Finally, the main goal requires the trainer to catch all the Pokmon and to gather information for the PokDEX. All this is not easy work, as it all requires training and patience.

Movement
With the default controls, the character can move in four directions: up, down, left, and right by pressing the up arrow, the down arrow, the left arrow, and the right arrow respectively. To change these controls, please visit the CONTROLS section to find out how.

Battling Pokmon
Fighting against Pokmon is the life of a trainer! Fighting Pokmon takes place in the following window on right. When you encounter a wild Pokmon you will be presented with what kind of Pokmon it is. From there, your trainer will toss out the first Pokmon from your party. You will then be presented with four options: FIGHT, BAG, POKMON, and RUN. FIGHT Option The fight option allows the trainer to select what attack it wants to use against the opponent Pokmon. The trainer has the option to select one attack based on a possible four options. Each attack does something different based on its effect, typing and power. BAG Option The bag option allows the trainer to select what items it wants to use. Most items that are used in battle are those that will heal their own Pokmon from status aliments, low HP, or low PP. Some items also allow the trainer to catch wild Pokmon. These devices are called Pokballs in which we will talk about in the section Catching Pokmon.

POKMON Option Dont need your current Pokmon out right now? Now problem! This option allows the trainer to swap out their Pokmon for another one in their party. Besides the current Pokmon they have out, the trainer can switch between five different Pokmon. This can be useful if you need to use a Pokmon with a more effective typing against your opponent. Switching Pokmon does come at a cost: you will see your turn instead of attacking allowing your opponent to get a free move on you. RUN Option Dont want to fight a wild Pokmon? Well, with this option you can run away from wild Pokmon battles. Running away does come at a risk: you may not be able to escape if you have a Pokmon that is slower than the wild Pokmon. You cannot run away from trainer battles and you must either fight the trainer or lose the match.

Catching Pokmon
You need Pokmon to fight! Catching Pokmon is your key to having a larger and stronger party. A trainer can only catch Pokmon that are in the wild and cannot be stolen from other trainers. Catching Pokmon is not an easy cakewalk as certain variables prevent Pokmon from being caught. Once a trainer catches a Pokmon it will either go into their party or it will be sent to their PC (which is a Pokmon storage box) located at the PokCentre. The next sub-sections will discuss the factors of catching a Pokmon. Pokballs The device that catches Pokmon, Pokballs is one of the most important items in the game. When a trainer wants a Pokmon from the wild they need to use this item before they can get said Pokmon. Not all Pokballs are made equal and some will catch Pokmon easier than others. The next page will show a table of available Pokballs obtainable in game:

List of Pokballs (Source: www.thonky.com) Type Catch Rate Multiplier Pok Ball 1x Great Ball 1.5x Ultra Ball 2x Master Ball 255x Safari Ball 1.5x Premier 1x Ball Repeat Ball 3x if the pokmon being caught is displayed in your pokdex as having been caught before Timer Ball 2x if battle has gone on for at least 10 turns 3x if battle has gone on for at least 20 turns 4x if battle has gone on for at least 30 turns 1x otherwise Tips to Catch Pokmon Easier Here are some tips that will make easier to catch Pokmon: - The lower the wild Pokmons HP the higher success rate to catching the Pokmon - Giving a wild Pokmon a status ailment like sleep, freeze, paralysis, poison, or burnt increases the chances of a Pokmon getting caught. Putting a wild Pokmon to sleep or freezing it will be more effective than the other statuses it can get.

Advanced Game Mechanics Type Effectiveness

Rock, Paper, Scissors. This is how the basic mindset of how type effectiveness works in PokeMMO. Each Pokmon have their own type based on elements in the Pokmon world. For an example the starter Pokmon, Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle are fire type, grass type, and water type respectively. When you pick a starter Pokmon, your rival character will pick a type that is strong against your Pokmon. An example being that if your trainer picks Charmander your rival character will pick a Squirtle because Squirtle will learn water based attacks that will be effective against Charmander. Type effectiveness is the central mechanic to picking the right attacks in a Pokmon battle. How Type Effectiveness Affects the Battle The battling is greatly affected on type effectiveness. Certain attacks against a Pokmon could be stronger against them, weak against them, or even have no effect on them. Knowing the typing of each Pokmon is crucial as it determines an easy victory or a tragic mistake that could lose you the battle. The next Sub-Section will show the table of types based on their effectiveness on other types. Table of Type Effectiveness (Source: Pokemondb.net)

Numbers and You: Base Stats and Stats

What are Stats? Stats are the factors in which determines if a Pokmon will lay a hit first, attack effectively, or defend a hit well. There are six types of stats that determine this: HP (Hit Points), attack, defense, special attack, special defense, and speed. The following will explain what each stat does: HP Hit Points are the number of how much damage a Pokmon can take before fainting. Attack Determines the power of a physical attack. Defense Determines how much it can withstand a physical attack. Special Attack Determines the power of a special attack. Special Defense Determines how much it can withstand a special attack. Speed Determines if they attack first. Base Stats Every species of Pokmon are different for a reason. They must adapt to their environment and by doing so have different tools to help their aid for survival. Base stats are the way to figuring if a trainer wants a Pokmon on their team or not. Base stats determine if a Pokmon is a tank (a Pokmon that can take hits) or a sweeper (a Pokmon that can attack Pokmon effectively.

The DNA of Pokmon

When you catch a Pokmon they each have their own special traits. Not all Pokmon are created equally and one Rattata could be stronger than another Ratatta given they both have the same level. This is because of the Nature and IVs given to the Pokmon, which is the DNA of Pokmon. Nature We all have characteristics. Some people are grumpy, while others are joyful and then some people get sadder than others. Just like characteristics, Pokmon have their own attitudes, which are called natures. These natures give Pokmon their own unique advantages, but in some cases disadvantages. Most natures will give a 10% increase to one stat and a 10% decrease to another stat. An example would be the adamant nature in which it gives a 10% stat increase in attack and a 10% stat decrease in special attack. Some natures do not affect the stats at all like bashful and docile. There are no natures that affect the HP stats. Table of Natures (Source: PsyPokes.com)

GUI And You: The MMO Aspect to the Game

PokeMMOs leading feature to the game is the graphic user interface; that is the GUI. The GUI is what enables users to chat to other people in game, make trades, have new friends, create teams, and much more. Without this leading feature PokeMMO would not be the game as it is today.
