One Team, One Passion, One Goal

Athletes (12): Kyle Carr, JR Celski, Alyson Dudek, Jonathan Garcia, Morgan Izykowski, Travis Jayner, Levi Kirkpatrick, Jordan Malone, Katherine Reutter, Emily Scott, Jeff Simon, and Kyle Uyehara. Summary from Athlete Meeting (06/01/2012) Athletes want no part of the NRP until the coaching staff are replaced. o Athletes are not willing to work with the coaching staff in ANY capacity. This includes relay training, World Cups, World Championships, Olympics, etc. o This situation evolved throughout the NRP invite process and was the result of the inappropriate behavior displayed by the coaching staff in order to pull skaters back to the NRP. Ex. Extortion, threat of defamation, coercion, dishonesty, etc. Athletes will not be picked out from this group to join the NRP. All 12 athletes are either invited back and accepted as a group or no one will be rejoining the NRP. Supporting the Athletes in the Oval Program Requests: Ice/Coaching Fee's with the Utah Olympic Oval FAST program, o 12 Skaters x $3000/Season = $36,000 Additional Coach ($40,000 - $80,000) Possibly split cost with Utah Olympic Legacy (Utah Athletic Foundation) Access to Athletic Trainer/Training Room as well as Massage Therapists. Access to and designated training time with strength and conditioning coaches Shane and July. Suggested Solutions Re-evaluate "ST Core asks" in the High Performance Budget, o 3"^ Coach for NRP is unnecessary ($65,000) Decrease Meal Program in relation to the number of skaters ($30,000) o Training Partner ($ 10.000) o Any other areas that may be decreased due to a reduction in NRP athletes. Re-evaluate the amount of financial resources dedicated to NRP coaching staff. o With only 9 NRP athletes (4.5:1 athlete to coach ratio), there is significantly less work and this may be reflected in the financial resources devoted to the NRP coaching staff. Changes Prior to Representing US Speedskating Athlete stipend in the form of an agreement, not a cover letter, to all athletes (or athletes already not receiving USOC funding). Athlete influence on Coaching/Support staff involved with the ST Program. Athlete influence on traveling team managers. Athlete influence on ST HP spending. Ex. Camps, training partners, testing, meal program etc. Athlete influence on racing procedures and team selection. Athlete/USS negotiation on the re-writing of the athlete agreement in a fair way as well as other aspects of representing US Speedskating.
