ExporTTs Cottage Food and Beverage Cluster host ed a free session for local, smallscale food or beverage producers interested in export markets. The session included informative presentations for preparing small-scale producers to meet the requirements of export markets. Seminar topics included manufacturing for export; sourcing funds; standards and product testing, marketing, packaging and labelling and information on services being made available to exporters from trade support institutions. For further details, contact: Shamilla Khan <skhan@exportt.co.tt> <1 868 496 9983> The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment (MTII), of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, and export are hosting this national consultation on the response of producers/exporters to production and consequently export requirements introduced/enforced under the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). In essence the FSMA puts the responsibility on government institutions to ensure that companies comply with food standards prior to export. The consultation will focus on identifying and outlining the kinds of systems and infrastructure that are needed to support conformance with the FSMA requirements. MEAs are legally-binding agreement between three or more states which seek to address trans-boundary issues relating to the environment through a platform for international cooperation. This is inclusive of treatment on pollution (e.g. persistent organic pollutants/POPs), protection of special/endemic ecosystems, biosafety and climate change which, besides their direct threats to human life, are also closely linked to sustainable agriculture, food safety and food and nutrition security. This workshop is intended to promote Caribbean parties implementation of and compliance with the provisions of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS Conventions) by providing training in drafting national legislation or regulations pertaining to MEA implementation.
