DC CLEAN RIVERS PROJECT FIELD INVESTIGATIONS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD FIRST AND V STREETS, NW

DC Water is implementing its Clean Rivers Project, a 13-mile system of tunnels and diversion sewers throughout the city that will help mitigate flooding and reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to Rock Creek and the Anacostia and Potomac rivers. The First Street Tunnel portion of the project extends along First Street, NW, from Rhode Island Avenue to the McMillan Reservoir. Construction on the First Street Tunnel has been accelerated as part of the Mayors Task Force to relieve street and basement flooding in the Northeast Boundary. Our contractor will conduct soft dig vacuum excavation test holes and land surveys to record locations of utilities, properties, borings and wells for future reference along the tunnel alignment. The intersection of First St. and V St., NW will be impacted during these investigations. Other construction impacts and important information are as follows: Soft dig operations are scheduled to take place between Tuesday, July 16, 2013 and Wednesday, July 24, 2013 weather permitting. Digging will take approximately two business days and will occur between the hours of 9:00am 3:00pm. There will be noise during soft dig operations. Staging for this project will be at the soft dig location and all work areas will have required signage and secured fencing at each location. Parking will be restricted within the work zones. Accordingly, No Parking signs will be posted 72 hours prior to the work, as required by the District Department of Transportation. Traffic will be maintained throughout the work area.
